AsZenless Zone Zero1.4 approaches, more information has begun to leak, the most recent being about new Drive Discs. Excitement for 1.4 has continued to grow with the steady flow of new leaks. Two fantastic recent updates have also helped this in 1.2 and 1.3, which each added exciting new characters, content, and welcomed quality-of-life changes.
The most anticipated additions of 1.4 are the powerful new agentsset to join the roster. The first is Harumasa, a lightning-fast Attack member of Section 6 who utilizes his bow and sword to deal damage. However, Miyabi, the fearless leader of Section 6, seems to be the more popular pick. This technically Ice Anomaly unit comes withZenless Zone Zero’s first dual element damagein Frost which combines Ice and Fire to deal heavy Anomaly damage while also boosting her critical damage.

Due to credible leaker Flying Flame (shared by Reddit userShinyLord), there’s a first look at the two new Drive Discs and what they do.These new additions are called Astral Voice and Branch & Blade Song.

When any team member enters the field through Quick Assist, the entire team gains 1 stack of Melody, stacking up to 3 times, lasting for X seconds. Repeated triggers refresh the duration. Each stack of Melody increases the DMG dealt by the Agent entering through Quick Assist by 8%. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
When Anomaly Mastery is greater than or equal to 115, the wearer’s CRIT DMG is increased by 25%. When any team member applies Freeze or triggers Shatter on an enemy, the wearer’s ATK is increased by 15% for 15 seconds.
Based on the designs and effects, these two sets are intended for Harumasa and Miyabi respectively. This has been a common trend in all HoYoverse games where sets are released to bolster the new characters, but these sets may just have other uses, albeit to a lesser degree.
Who Can Best Use Astral Voice And Branch & Blade Song
A Possible Future
These two Drive Discs will likely be tricky to get to mesh with other characters. The two-piece Attack bonus will be helpful for a bonus set, but there is already Hormone Punk.Astral Voice may have some uses in teams that use near-constant Quick Support, but will likely be slotted into the support unit of the team to maximize the damage of the DPS.
Zenless Zone Zero: Best Yanagi Build (W-Engine, Teams & Drive Discs)
With Anomaly characters on the rise, properly building Yanagi will allow players to clear even the hardest content in Zenless Zone Zero.
Unfortunately,Branch & Blade Song seems incredibly niche and limited to Miyabi for now. Anomaly units rarely care about Critical Damage and those that do demand high field time. Even someone likeJane Doe and her best buildswould make this a tricky set without having a proper Ice agent to help trigger Freeze or Shatter. This set may have a spot for an off-meta Ellen Joe, but this would require boosting her Anomaly Proficiency and going away from Woodpecker Electro or Polar Metal, which are her usual Drive Discs that play around her kit much better.
Overall, even if these Drive Discs aren’t very flexible currently, they will excel in what they are meant to do. Unfortunately, new characters often require new sets, butZenless Zone Zero’s Barbic Needlemakes farming easier than other games. At least these two have some potential for use in the future, but not as much as other heavily used sets. Regardless, these are the two new powerful Drive Discs set to enterZenless Zone Zeroin 1.4.
