Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Wolverine #3!While iconic, the 20th Century FoxX-Menfilms only ever scratched the surface of a number of the characters featured throughout the franchise, including and especially the villains. Many bad guys were introduced and then killed far too quickly, and others were only ever little more than cameos. One character in particular received such treatment, making her a woefullyunderratedX-Menmovie villain. Thankfully, however, that’s not the case in the comics, as this villain in question just got upgraded with a new type of adamantium.
InWolverine#3 by Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo,Wolverine has partnered with a Wendigo, and is on the run from Department H officers who are trying to capture both Wolverine and his new ally after suspecting them of being responsible for a number of grisly murders in the Canadian wilderness. The real culprit behind those murders is a villain named Silas Burr aka Cyber, whose skin (aside from his face) is made of adamantium. While Wolverine and the Wendigo are paying for Cyber’s crimes, Burr himself is in Japan, as he’s decided to go after Lady Deathstrike.

In the first issue of this newWolverineseries,Cyber fought Wolverinein the Canadian wilderness and was defeated. The sound of their adamantium clinging together awakened an ancient, sentient metal that regards itself as the one true metal on the planet, while all others are beneath it. When Cyber retreats to a nearby cave to lick his wounds, the sentient metal infects him, turning his adamantium gold and taking over his mind. And now, inWolverine#3, that metal has infected Lady Deathstrike as well, adding her to its ever-growing gold adamantium army.
Lady Deathstrike has Never Been More of a Threat to Wolverine
Marvel Comics Can Redeem Lady Deathstrike’s LacklusterX-MenMovie Appearance
While her mind is lost,Lady Deathstrike has received an unprecedented upgrade, especially in regard to her seemingly age-old conflict with Wolverine. Deathstrike has wanted to kill Wolverine ever since learning of his existence, as she views him as an insult to her family given that her father invented the process of coating one’s bones in adamantium, and Logan’s procedure was unsanctioned by him. Now, Lady Deathstrike is possessed by an eldritch entity that feels basically the same way about everyone who’s bonded with adamantium, and with its help, Deathstrike can finally defeat Wolverine.
If Lady Deathstrike exposed Wolverine to this ‘gold adamantium’, then he would fall under its curse and become yet another member of its ever-growing army. Wolverine would effectively be defeated, and all it would take is one scratch from Lady Deathstrike. Lady Deathstrike has never been more of a threat to Wolverine, which greatly redeems her threat-level in the film X2: X-Men United. In that movie, Lady Deathstrike is taken down by Wolverine insanely quickly, and is merely a secondary villain from the start. Now, Lady Deathstrike could very well be the one villain to take Wolverine down permanently.

Lady Deathstrike’s Adamantium Upgrade Could Be the Key to Her Redemption
Wolverine Could Save Deathstrike’s Life, Making Them Newfound Allies
Even though Lady Deathstrike has been Wolverine’s enemy since her debut, her new ‘gold adamantium’ upgrade could change that completely. While she’s never been a greater threat to Wolverine than she is now, Lady Deathstrike herself is also the victim of this sentient metal. Therefore, if Wolverine were to somehow free her mind and body from this entity, Lady Deathstrike might be willing to forget their long-standing rivalry, and maybe even become a new lifelong ally to Wolverine from that moment forward.
Move Over, Adamantium: Hulk Finally Discovers an Unbreakable Metal Stronger Than His Muscles
The Hulk has tangled with adamantium that’s been weaponized against him (primarily by Wolverine), and now, he’s found a metal that’s even stronger.
While there’s no guarantee Wolverine will be able to free either Cyber or Lady Deathstrike from the grip this ‘gold adamantium’ has over them, the one thing that is certain is that Wolverine will be in for the fight of his life once he goes toe-to-toe with this newly-upgraded Lady Deathstrike. And once they do have their inevitable battle in this new Wolverine series,X-Menwill have officially redeemed Lady Deathstrike’s less than stellar appearance in the films.
