After drowning the X-Man, Mephisto laughingly dangles Akihiro over a pool of molten lava before plunging his crimson-skinned hand down Akihiro’s throat. After ripping Bagra-ghul out of the mutant’s body, Mephisto leaves his pet demon to reconstruct Akihiro into one of the monuments he fought to destroy. The X-Man is severed nerve by nerve and pinned against a slab of intricate, profane runes.Akihiro can do nothing as his flesh is left splayed while he remains conscious and awareof his infernal misery as the Devil voraciously cackles at the hero’s infernal misery.

This series certainly hasn’t skimped on the brutal horrors that Mephisto and Bagra-ghul have attempted to reap. Throughout his journeys, Akihiro has unwittingly enacted the same damnable acts of torture that he has endured on the lives of others. As the villain “Daken,”Akihiro has painted the world red with visceraand has struck traumatic fear in the hearts of his victims. Now, the punishment is coming back to the X-Man. However, as Akihiro physically attempts to atone for the pain he caused himself and others, his soul is never outside the Devil’s reach.
The Devil’s plans may be momentarily halted, but they are never stopped.

Unfortunately, Mephisto and Bagra-ghul’s sick string of torturous monuments don’t end with Akihiro. While the once-Wolverine has temporarily quelled the demon’s urges and bested Mephisto, his torture continues in the realm of the living. Now,an infectious disease of the soul has spread to Earth’s greatest monster, the Hulk, leaving Akihiro the only person who can defeat the rampaging Avenger.
