The most exciting Wolverine scene in theMarvel Cinematic Universewas not included in the theatrical cut ofDeadpool & Wolverine. Throughout its runtime,Deadpool & Wolverineis loaded with cameos, references, and bonus details galore - with some extra moments releasing outside of the movie itself. With the release of one particular scene online, I have only grown more excited for the special features that could accompany the home release.
While theending ofDeadpool & Wolverineis ambiguous regarding the future of its heroes, allowing them to reappear or to live out the rest of their lives in their universe, I believe there is more to be done with these characters. While Hugh Jackman previously retired Wolverine inLogan, this film works around that by creating a new variant. While still played by Hugh Jackman, the character is a new iteration of the hero. With deeper comic book roots and a new spin on the hero, there may be enough to entice the actor to return to the role.

In a new scene posted toInstagram,Deadpool helps Wolverine to say his comic catchphrase:“I’m the best there is at what I do, and what I do isn’t very nice"by holding up a sign with his line written on it. The scene is not in the final film, but the moment was posted online by Ryan Reynolds on August 4.
This behind-the-scenes footage thus became further marketing for the movie, continuing its unusual campaign that included releasing a silly and provocativeDeadpoolpopcorn bucket. The moment is a wonderful reference to Jackman’s acting past and the comic origins of the line, and following this, I am excited to potentially see whether even more nods to the comic books may crop up.
In the Chris Claremont comics, Wolverine says these words, and they have become a catchphrase for the mutant ever since. Claremont is one of the most influential writers inX-Mencomics history, and was especially important in creating the team as most fans understand them now. While Len Wein and John Romita Sr. created Wolverine,the hero was fleshed out and truly made into the X-Man that he now is by Chris Claremont. As such, I was satisfied to see this wink to Claremont’s importance in this new scene.

While Hugh Jackman has spent decades building Wolverine for the big screen, the film creates a new version of the hero that is more directly influenced by the comic books and cartoons of the past.With his iconic outfit and spewing lines straight from the comic book pages, I was excited to see the Wolverine I have always wanted in films.Shockingly, they didn’t even have to get a new, shorter actor to reinvent the character the way I’ve always wanted to see.

However, as more and more details and scenes are released online, I am beginning to see that there is still much more to do with these characters. The studio has only begun crafting an accurate comic book iteration of the Wolverine character, and it appears that there is even more that they want to do in the future. However and wherever that happens, afterDeadpool & Wolverine, I am excited for whatever the studio decides to do with Wolverine.
