It was soon discovered that that text chat could be exploited to crash others’ games using a specific bit of text. On June 30,Bungieissued the below tweet and fully disabled the function to avoid this exploit.

Seeing as this exploit could be dropped to anyone and immediately crash the game, this exploit is especially nasty. Seeing as there’s currently no other way to cut the exploit,Bungiesimply disabled text chat altogether.
This video, uploaded to Twitter by user @ritzzcar, shows a bit of how simple this exploit is for anyone to use. Considering this, Bungie really didn’t have any other choice.
