Benedict has enjoyed many ups and downs, especially on the romance front. In season 1,Benedict was characterized as the sensual artist, who didn’t let the rules of the ton keep him from having fun. He would paint, take male and female lovers, and do what he wanted. Season 2 saw him lose his confidence after he got into a prestigious art school only because of his name. Finally, season 3 introducedLady Tilley Arnold, with whom Benedict had a unique affair, only for it to end when Tilley became attached. However, with Sophie, things will be different.

After Sophie’s father died, her stepmother forced her into becoming her servant. In this way,Sophie was snatched out of the ton and shoved into the lower class. She was unable to join the courting season or socialize with others, including Benedict Bridgerton. That is until the masquerade ball. Sophie and Benedict should never see each other again, but fate intervenes.

Bridgerton: 21 Biggest Book Changes In Season 3

Bridgerton season 3 changed plenty from Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, leaving some key events the same but also introducing new & different stories.

The big issue that comes between Benedict and Sophie is Sophie’s illegitimate birth. Because of his status, Benedict is expected to marry a woman of the ton. In this way, he and Sophie could never truly be together, and she would forever be destined to just be his mistress. This distresses her, as her own illegitimate birth caused her many problems throughout her life. For Benedict and Sophie to get married, they must overcome Sophie’s fears and find a way to be together as husband and wife, not lord and mistress.

How Sophie Is Different In The Bridgerton Show vs. The Book

Sophie Beckett Has Been Reworked Into Sophie Baek

Over the years, Netflix’sBridgertonhas been known to make changes fromJulia Quinn’s originalBridgertonbooks. For example, Benedict’s bisexuality is a TV addition and is not apparent in the books. According to Netflix,Bridgertonhas reworked Sophie Beckett by changing her name to Sophie Baekout of respect for Ha’s culture. Speaking to Netflix’sTUDUM, Ha pointed out how important the name of a character can be in terms of identity and what one shares with the world, noting how powerful changing Sophie’s name is.

“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” “To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”

Bridgertonhas reworked Sophie Beckett by changing her name to Sophie Baek. In this way, Sophie will not just be played by a Korean actress, but will canonically be a Korean woman. Furthermore, Sophie’s story will be a bit different because of Benedict’s bisexuality. This adds another layer of complexity to their romance that does not come from the source material and could make for some interesting new dynamics between them. Finally, it seems unlikely thatBridgertonwill include a significant time jump within the fourth season, although the show is only expected to return in 2026.

What Happens To Sophie After Her & Benedict’s Book

Sophie Lives Happily Ever After

Sophie’s story afterAn Offer from a Gentlemanisn’t much different from the stories ofBridgerton’sother happy couples. Sophie and Benedict get married and eventually have children. One development to note is thatSophie forms a better relationship with her step-sisters, and even arranges the marriage of one of them. This could certainly be a plotline that plays out inBridgertonseason 5 and beyond. However, based on the source material only, it seems likely that Sophie and Benedict will fade into marital bliss after their season.
