When Jade first sees him,the man has some sort of knife or stake driven into his eye, indicating he was brutally killed by somebody at the camp long beforeFrom’s present timeline. Jade also sees the dead man being pinned up onto a tree at the camp, suggesting he was killed by other former inhabitants of the area.
