Hogwarts Legacyused the choice of houses and the design of each common room as one of the selling points for the game. This was a change from most previousHarry Pottergames, where the game followed the content of the books, taking away the choice from the player as being in Gryffindor was required for the plot. Consequently, allowing for the player to pick which house they join means that no house is outright labeled as being the canon option.

SinceHogwarts Legacytakes place in the past, it has fewer constraints compared to the games that follow that character of Harry Potter. Additionally, the player starts their education as a fifth year student, which is partially out ofnecessity to allow for the player to have a character with a clean slate. Of course, that comes with the downside of questioning which options are canon, as the game is designed to allow somemeasure of freedom for players, and that means decisions aren’t outright categorized as canon or not. However, there are hints as to which house choice, at least, is meant to be canon.

Hufflepuff Is Most Likely The Canon House Option

Hufflepuff Makes The Most Sense For The Story

The biggest point that makes Hufflepuff feel like the canon house choice is the house exclusive quest it has. It’sthe only house that gets to go toAzkaban inHogwarts Legacy, and the whole questline seems more in-depth compared to the other house quests. As one of the key areas in both the books and movies, Azkaban has deep significance to the character of Sirius Black, making it a firm-favorite and well-known location in the Wizarding World lore.

Hogwarts Legacy Player Video Reveals One Major Flaw Of The Movies

A video from a Hogwarts Legacy fan reveals one big oversight from the Harry Potter movies and books when it comes to the size of the map.

Looking this portion of the game to only this one house seems toheavily imply that Hufflepuff is the intended house for the player. It also can’t be ignored that Percival Rackham was also a Hufflepuff, and able to use Ancient Magic much like the player character inHogwarts Legacy, which would be a nice touch if that’s theintended house for the playeras well.

Ravenclaw Is A Strong Second Option For The Canon House

A Clever Choice

Oddly enough, none of the main NPC allies the player has are in Ravenclaw. Because of this, the player being in Ravenclaw fills in the voidthat’s otherwise present among the main student characters. It also adds an interesting element to the story, because Isidora was a Ravenclaw and joined Hogwarts late due to her ability to use Ancient Magic. So, the player being in Ravenclaw makes them almost a memory of who Isidora was beforeshe went too far with her experimentsand use of Ancient Magic to take away negative emotions.

It’s possible to make an argument about each of the four houses andwhy any one of them could be considered the canon option. Given the design of the houses, their quests, and the NPCs in each house, the order for the most likely to the least likely canon house looks like this: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor. However, some aspects change that order, such as being a dark wizard fits better with Slytherin than Hufflepuff inHogwarts Legacy.
