It turns out the PlayStation 4 and 5 versions ofVampire Survivorswill not be getting a previously promised and highly requested feature due to a legal issue with PlayStation. Developer Poncle said it was not aware of the legal issue before stating that the new feature would be coming to PlayStation consoles and that the studio will work to try and remedy this problem. But a fix doesn’t seem likely, to the disappointment of PlayStation fans.
According to a post on the officialVampire SurvivorsX account, thePS4 and PS5 versions ofVampire Survivorswill not feature cross-save in the game’s next update, despite the feature being implemented on other consoles, PC, and mobile devices. The inability to include the feature is due to an undisclosed legal reason that “requires[the developers]to share info on[their]partners that[they’re]unable to.” Poncle promised in January that the upcoming 1.13 patch would introduce cross-save“to everyone, on all platforms,”enabling players to save their game on one system and continue it on another (viaVGC).

Is There A Chance Cross-Save Could Still Come To Vampire Survivors For PlayStation?
It’s Not Impossible, But It’s Very Unlikely
According to the developers on X,“the chances of Cross-Save coming to PlayStation consoles are now very slim, but not impossible.“The string of X posts continued, with Poncle reassuring fans they’re not going to give up and saying the developers will “keep working alongside PlayStation to resolve these problems.“Poncle is not confident that the developers will be able to bring cross-save to the PlayStation consoles, possibly out of caution of not wanting to go back on their word again.

Cross-save has become a very popular feature, with even older games likeNo Man’s Skygetting cross-save. WithVampire Survivorsbeing critically well-received and just coming out on the PlayStation consoles last year, the timing of this news is sure to disappoint a lot of players who just recently got into the gameand might play it on other platforms.

Our Take: While It’s Disappointing, The Transparency Is Appreciated
Poncle Took A Lot Of Time To Explain The Situation
A developer having to go back on a previously promised feature for a game is always disappointing, butthe sting is lessened by Poncle’s explanation and apology. The situation was out of their control, and they were ignorant of the legal issue with PlayStation before promising cross-save for the consoles. Fans are likely going to be disappointed while also understanding the reasoning.
Vampire SurvivorsgotCastlevaniaDLC last Halloween, just a couple of months after the PlayStation release of the game. WithVampire Survivorshaving a lot of content and an addictive gameplay loop, the lack of cross-save is probably not enough to stop fans from having a good time.
