Trackerseason 2 is on the way, and to build hype for the upcoming episodes, CBS released a trailer that teases one significant aspect of the series but unfortunately ignores the best part of the story. The CBS action drama, created by Ben H. Winters, is based on Jeffery Deaver’sThe Never Gameandfollows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw.Colter is a survivalist and a contract tracker(as the show’s title suggests) who travels around the country and finds people for a living. While Colter’s job is one ofTracker’s cornerstones, it isn’t its biggest draw, as showcased in season 1.
Following its series premiere after Super Bowl LVIII on July 19, 2025,Trackerseason 1 went on to become CBS’s highest-rated scripted series of the 2023–2024 season.

As the centralcharacter ofTracker,Colter’s story (including his mysterious past) is important and complex.Over the course of the series' first set of episodes, the audience slowly but surely learns more about Colter and how his past shaped him into the man he is today. Unfortunately, not even Colter knows the full details of his history, including his father’s strange death when Colter was a child. Since Hartley’s character failed to learn the truth by theTrackerseason 1 finale, the mystery will carry over into season 2, but one wouldn’t think so based on its first trailer.
Tracker Season 2 Trailer Focuses On Colter’s Rewardist Job
Season 2’s Teaser Video Downplays Tracker Season 1’s Big Mystery
TheTrackerseason 2 trailer, which the show dropped on itsInstagrampage in late August 2024, is brief but teases a first glance at the upcoming episodes. The footage shows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw in action as he jumps back into his work as a rewardist, traveling the country and tracking people down. Unfortunately,Trackerseason 2’s first teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming episodes' storiesor Colter’s cases. Nevertheless, the video is still building hype as fans start counting down the days until the June 16, 2025, premiere on CBS.
One couldn’t help but notice that something was missing from the trailer, though — it’s ignoringTrackerseason 2’s biggest story. Themystery surrounding Colter’s father’s death will undoubtedly play a major rolein the upcoming episodes as Hartley’s character continues trying to figure out what happened that night many years ago. If Russell didn’t kill their father as Colter previously thought, then the suspect pool is wide open. It’s only a matter of time before the truth is revealed, and, hopefully, that moment will come in season 2.

Why Tracker Season 2 Trailer Hides Its Biggest Story
Jensen Ackles' Return Guarantees Season 2 Will Circle Back To Ashton’s Death
As mentioned above, theTrackerseason 2 trailer is quite short. There is only so much that the editors could fit into the video, and they decided to focus on Colter’s job instead of the action drama’s most significant story (and showing a glimpse atJensen Ackles’Trackerreturn). Perhaps the trailer is hiding teases surrounding the mystery of Ashton Shaw’s death because they would give too much away about the upcoming season. Whatever the case, fans can rest easy knowing thatTrackerseason 2 willcontinue exploring what happened to Colter and Russell’s father.
