Well, well, it’s time for the dailyConnectionspuzzle, and it’s not an easy one. I said my streak going well would not end up going well for me,and I was completely right. The annoying part is, I was extremely close on most of these. With just a word different in one of my guesses, this puzzle would have gone very differently. To help you avoid those same mistakes, check out the hints and tricks in the rest of this guide.
There are a lot of different puzzles out there, but if you want a bunch of different puzzles in one game, you should check outThe Password Game. It is a daily game much like the others thatcombines a bunch of different, smaller puzzles into one big challengethat requires you to take into account all of the answers to each puzzle at the same time. It is quite hard the first time you try it, but it becomes easier as you get more practice andknow what the puzzle expects of you.

Today’s Connections Category Hints
JANUARY 28 #597
This puzzle is a tricky one, mainly because more than one of the words wants to go somewhere elseor look like they belong with other words in the puzzle. That can make it hard for players to understand what the categories are, particularly with no other context. The following four clues attempt to give you some of that context, allowing you to have a little more knowledge going into the rest of the puzzle.
10 Best Connections Tips, Tricks, & Strategies
Four categories with four words each sounds simple, but the daily challenge of the Connections game can prove difficult without a few tips to help.
If you still need more context, which I would have greatly liked, there are the category names in the box below, followed by full spoilers.

SPEED ___
JOKER
LAUGH
This category annoyed me as I guessed a combination of some of these words and missed it. I thought about objects that had a combination of red, white, and black to be fair, as JOKER, CARD, CHESS, and DIALall have some combination of this color scheme, although not always. (Yes, red was a color in Chess in different traditions quite frequently). I did have JOKER, CHARACTER, and LAUGH together, but I didn’t have CARD in that categoryas, while I can apparently remember chess colors, I can’t remember the older use of a particular word.
DUMBBELL
MAT
This category I got fairly quickly, which was impressive considering I don’t have a formal workout routine and do my best to avoid the gym. Not to say I don’t get any exercise, but I don’t tend to use equipment, and my cat doesn’t like me using DUMBBELLS. Still,I managed to get this one despite the handicap, and I was able to get it quite quickly. I wasn’t sure about MAT on my very first guess, but otherwise, this is the one that I felt good about today.

Strands is one of New York Times' many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6x8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.
MOUND
SNICKER
This one I was incredibly close to several times. I had AIRHEAD, MAR, and SNICKER all selected multiple times as I looked for what a fourth word might be. I don’t even know if I’ve ever had MOUND(s) candy.I know I have seen it after I saw the answer, but I think that’s why I didn’t see it right away. I thought maybe JOKER might be a type of candy, but obviously, that was not the right answer and I didn’t quite get all the way there.
DEMON
DIAL
This one I was not close too and probably would not have gotten unless I only had 4 words left. It is unfortunate, but I didn’t recognize that these words might belong together. That, and I had a lot of these words with other ones in different categories as options. CHESS definitely felt like it belonged with other words like CARD and JOKER, and DEMON felt like it could lean in that direction as well. I also had BUMP and MOUND together at least once.
