Today’s Connections Category Hints
SEPTEMBER 04 #450
If you want a few hints for today’s puzzle and particularly the categories involved, you are in the right place. Here are four hints that correspond to all four categories:
If that is not enough, there are other options that we have provided below. The first is the actual category names, and the second is the full answers with some commentary on them.

TOUCH
TRACE
If you want avery small amount of something, it is but a HINT of peppermint, a SHRED of parmesan, a TOUCH of salt, a TRACE of poison - maybe not that one though. These are all cooking-related metaphors, but that’s what happens when you playConnectionson an empty stomach.
It is also apt as the family cookbook often uses these words to describe recipes, which makes it difficult to judge how much of it you should use.

COLLAR
CRATE
If you aregetting a pet for the first time, these are the items you will likely be purchasing. A warm, cozy BED, and big BOWL for crunchies, a COLLAR so no one steals your baby, and a CRATE to keep them comfortable while you are away or while traveling to important vet visits. Interestingly enough, this category got my attention first despite never having a puppy myself.
NYT Mini Crossword: 8 Strategies To Solve It Fast
This tricky little five by five crossword isn’t always as easy as it looks; here are a couple easy tips and tricks to beat your friends' times!
PLAN
THROW
If you want to plan a party, there are a lot of different words you can use to describe the process. CATER is fairly specific to a food-related business or planning, butbeyond that these are all fairly synonymous. Or, at least, I have heard all of these used frequently enough that I got this category early on when working to solve it. I think it’s due to my grandma’s propensity to be a party animal.
HASH
STAR
I like to say I’m fairly familiar with keyboards and typing since it is a main part of my job every day. Given that, I did not recognize thewords used to describe some of these symbols. CARET was a new one for me, specifically, and I don’t know what I called that key but maybe I just never knew a name for it.
I always thought of it as an arrow. BRACE is likely a shortened form of “brackets”. HASH is more commonly referred to as “pound” (or hashtag in social media) while on a keyboard I have always called the STAR key an “asterisk.”
