Today’s Connections Category Hints
NOVEMBER 19 #527
Unlocking the answers on today’s puzzle will come in the form of making distinctions and recognizing similarities. There was one word that I was not sure what to do with at all, and there were a couple of others that confused me. Figuring out what to do with those words was hard, but I am glad I stuck with it. To help you bypass some of that frustration, here are four clues about the categories:
10 Strands Strategies To Quickly Solve The Theme
Strands is one of New York Times' many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6x8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.
If you still aren’t sure what to do with some of these words, I wasn’t either at this point. However, you get what I didn’t have to help you solve the puzzle -the category names.

DOUBLE ___
FOCUS
SPECIALTY
This category was fairly easy for me to spot and I got it almost right away. That being said, being on my second post-graduate degree, I amvery familiar with all of these termsand how they are used across academia. Particularly as I had a FOCUS in my FIELD that was separate from my CONCENTRATION and even a little different from my SPECIALTY in my first post-grad. It would have then been weird if I didn’t get this category or at the very least suspect what this one was about.
PASSWORD
PIN
This category is all abouthow to unlock digital devices, and it is something I am familiar with as well. This is partly due to the demands of being a writer for a digital news site, but it has been part of life since I got my first iTouch a long time ago. That was also around the same time I got my first laptop, and so these things are just part of life. Admittedly, the FACE and FINGERPRINT options are very new, but I am glad no one can just grab my phone and start entering PINs anymore.
8 NYT Spelling Bee Strategies To Keep Your Streak Alive
The Spelling Bee puzzles created as a New York Times game build a streak of correct answers to get you more points, but they can be hard to keep.
RIBBON
WHEEL
This is when I started seeing words that caught me off guard, and that is a downright shame, as pasta is one of my favorite dishes. ELBOW and RIBBON were both quite recognizable, but by themselves,I did not immediately think of pasta. I am also sure I have seen it referred to as EAR noodles before, but I can’t remember doing so. I now have no idea what I called that type of pasta. WHEEL was not obvious on its own either, so that threw me off rhythm, particularly with the words in the last category.
JEOPARDY
STANDARD
DRIBBLE was absolutely not my friend in today’s category. If I don’t know much about sports normally, basketball is even worse. I only ever went to a few games, no one in my family watches it religiously, and I knew the rules in my P.E. class, but that was a very long time ago. AGENT, JEOPARDY, and STANDARD did feel like they went together, but I could not tell why, just that I got the sense they did. Unfortunately, not knowing what to do with DRIBBLE was my downfall.
