Today’s Connections Category Hints

AUGUST 24 #439

If you just want a few hints but do not want the answers just yet, we have some great clues for you to attempt to figure out the categories without looking at the names. Of course, you can always use both to figure out what words might go in each.

The last two categories and hints above are the trickiest to figure out without being quite familiar with the ideas. I found them a little confusing, but perhaps it will be easier for you if you know what you are up against. With that in mind, here are the names of the categories:

Latin in Connections Categories August 24

TALK

WHISPERS

This one could be thrown off by a couple of words found in later categories, while RUMBLING is not often used in everyday language. This might make it easy to sub it out for one of the incorrect words, especially JARGON, but it is one of the correct meanings.SPECULATION is the closest to the category name, but TALK and WHISPERS are more context-dependent.

STEAL

TIPTOE

CREEP and TIPTOE were the two words that most alerted me to this category. STEAL is kind of an odd way to describe movement, but it is a lesser-known meaning to the felony. Although you will likelytry to STEAL down to the nearest exit in the process of stealing. This was actually the first category I guessed today, mainly because there were no other “creepy” words to pick from.

NYT Mini Crossword: 8 Strategies To Solve It Fast

This tricky little five by five crossword isn’t always as easy as it looks; here are a couple easy tips and tricks to beat your friends' times!

NATIONAL

THRIFTY

This is where things started to get tricky, as the words in this category and the next seem extremely disconnected. If you have no real knowledge of these companies, this one is going to be difficult. It does not help that onlyENTERPRISE is really a one-word Car Rental companyand the rest of them have other titles. You would likely have to do some Googling to see how these words all went together without better knowledge of these companies.

LATIN

PLEAD

Lastly, we have this category which, in combination with the previous one, can present quite a challenge. I, for one, have not really looked at a periodic table since high school, and I would not haveparsed these words into the various periodic elements. However, you like me, might have erased all of high school Chemistry and Physics from your brain. It does not help that JARGON and LATIN could also possibly be in the “Hearsay” category.
