Spider-Manstar Tom Holland reveals howMarvel Studiosconfirmed his casting publicly before calling him to inform him. Over eight years after his MCU debut inCaptain America: Civil War,Spider-Man’s MCU journeyhas been one of the busiest, as Tom Holland’s Spidey has gotten three solo movies and three team-up appearances in the span of less than a decade. Things aren’t slowing down for Holland’s Peter Parker, however, asSpider-Man 4is gearing up for releasebefore the Multiverse Saga ends.
On an episode of theDishpodcast,MCU star Tom Holland recalls how he found out he was cast as Spider-Man from a website. According to Holland, he read that Marvel had officially announced him to be the MCU’s Spider-Man six weeks after auditioning for the role, and then Marvel called him to inform him soon after. Check out Holland’s anecdote below:

“I found out on Instagram. Marvel had poster a picture of Spider-Man, and it said something like, ‘Go to our website to find out who the next Spider-Man is.’ Now, at this point, I’ve been waiting maybe six weeks to find out whether I’ve go it. And obviously at that point, you go, ‘I didn’t get it’ because they would’ve called me. They’d have a little bit of respect.
And I went on their website and it said, ‘We’re proud to announce that our next Spider-Man is Tom Holland’ and I remember slamming my computer down and sort of sitting there. I called my agents. They had heard the news. They didn’t even know. And then the president of the studio called me up and gave me the news as if I didn’t know (…) You didn’t think an eigtheen-year-old kid scouring the internet isn’t gonna find out?”

Marvel actors usually aren’t completely up to date with every detail of the studio’s plans. Marvel took additional precautions with Tom Holland in particular given his proclivity to spoil details about his MCU movie appearances. Also, Marvel actors often don’t know exactly how their action scenes will look like on screen, as many big decisions are made in post-production.
