The Penguinshowrunner Lauren LeFranc opens up on whether or not the popularDCTV show could be renewed for season 2. One of the big villains in the Batman mythology is rising in power through the ongoingThe Penguinseries on HBO. Featuring Colin Farrell back as Oz Cobb inThe Batmanuniversespinoff series, the HBO drama didn’t take long to become an instant hit with critics and fans, as well as a ratings winner for Warner Bros. Discovery.

DuringScreenRant’sinterview withThe Penguincast and creative team atNew York Comic-Con,LeFranc addressed the possibility of seeingThe Batmanspinoff series get picked up for another season. While nothing is set in stone yet for the show’s future, LeFranc stressed that there are plenty more stories to tell throughThe Penguin, sharing the following:

Oz Cobb/The Penguin (Colin Farrell) looking thoughtful after fighting with Victor in The Penguin Season 1 Episode 3

Lauren LeFranc: Gotham is ripe to tell so many stories, the comics have shown that through decades and decades. I love this version of Gotham too. I love all the characters that we’ve gotten to explore in this world. I think there’s always room for more of that. If the story can be even better, absolutely.

What Lauren LeFranc’s Comments Mean For The Penguin Season 2

WhenThe Penguinwas initially announced and developed as part of Reeves' plans to flesh outThe Batmanuniverse,it was always pointed out that this would be a limited series, especially as the show is leading right intoThe Batman - Part II. Farrell has also given his thoughts onthe chances ofThe Penguinseason 2, sharing that he wasn’t entirely sure whether or not the physical process was something he could do again. However, production challenges are something that can definitely be worked out for a hypotheticalThe Penguinseason 2.

While there are clearly many ways to continueThe PenguinTV show, if they had always planned this to be a limited series from the get-go,developing another season may take a bit longer as they would want to make sure they keep the quality up for the theoretical second season. The success that the series is bringing to HBO is definitely helpful as they look to have the DC brand be a more regular thing in light of DC Studios' DC Universe also having TV shows coming to the cable channel. In the end, it wouldn’t be shocking if they tried to push forThe Penguinseason 2 in one way or another.

Our Take On The Chances Of The Penguin Season 2

If there is an organic way to makeThe Penguinseason 2 a reality,it would be great to see HBO renew it for another season and keep Oz’s story going. At the same time, it is also possible to have this universe fleshed out via other corners of Gotham City and through new characters in their own spinoffs. But for now, the world can look forward to the remaining episodes ofThe Penguinseason 1.

The Penguinseason 1 airs new episodes on Sunday nights at 9 PM on HBO, along with releases on Max.
