Empire-Timeline-Palpatine

Star Warsand Marvel Comics are about to releaseStar Wars: Battle of Jakku- Insurgency Rising #1, the first issue of a new and canonical comics trilogy that will reveal more details about the events surrounding and during the definitive battle that resulted in the Empire’s true surrender, making way for theNew Republic. To that end,a new preview has been released, one that shows a familiar Imperial officer choosing to keep the truth about the Empire’s defeat on Endor and Palpatine’s death a secret:

Commanding that any reports about Palpatine’s death are treasonous lies,it looks as though the Empire’s modus operandi in the immediate wake of Endor was to continue as if everything was fineand that they hadn’t just been dealt the biggest blow to its regime in its entire history.

The Empire Kept The Truth About Palpatine Hidden For As Long As They Could

Continuing The War With The Rebellion Post-Endor

This new reveal inInsurgency Rising #1does track with what little is already known about thisperiod in theStar Warstimeline. Staying the course and maintaining the lie about their ruler’s death makes the most sense from the Imperials' perspective, especially as a means to consolidate and cling to whatever remaining power they have left in the galaxy. That said, the Empire still has quite a lot of military might left, even without the Sith Lords and the second Death Star, explaining why it took the Rebellion a year to fully gain control of the galaxy.

Star Wars: What Happened At The Battle of Jakku Explained

The Battle of Jakku served as the true end to the Galactic Civil War in the Star Wars canon, and the beginning of the New Republic Era.

It’s also worth noting that the Imperials also hadOperation Cinder, Palpatine’s posthumous orders of vengeance that caused mass chaos and casualties in the wake of his demise across the galaxy. This certainly kept the Rebellion busy while also giving the Imperials time to reorganize as best they could. As such,it’s going to be fascinating to see the events leading up the Battle of Jakku, especially considering thatStar Warshas never fully revealed the parts major heroes like Luke, Leia, and Han Solo had to play.

Star Wars Is Debuting The Defiant Imperial

Building Up To The Battle Jakku

As has been revealed in previews and promotional materials forInsurgencyRising, this particular Imperial officer will eventually come to lead the new faction known as the Defiant Imperial, seemingly a large piece of the fractured Empire that the Rebel heroes seemed to have predominately faced before Jakku. Likewise, the Defiant Imperial itself looks to have been originally part of the brief mobile gameStar Wars Uprisingthat was canceled in 2016, with this new Imperial officer being Governeor Adelhard who locked down the Anoat sector following Endor.

Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising #1releases October 2nd from Marvel Comics.
