After the surprise announcement of aSupernaturalreunion inThe Boysseason 5, the hit Prime Video series confirms a crucial detail. It was revealed in February that Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins were set to join Jensen Ackles, their formerSupernaturalco-star, inThe Boysseason 5. But with so much of the fifth and final season remaining under wraps, it’s unknown who Padalecki and Collins will be playing.
A representative forThe Boysconfirmed toBusiness InsiderthatPadalecki and Collins will share scenes with Acklesin season 5. The confirmation came in the context of an interview with Padalecki at the 2025 Texas Film Awards, in which the Sam Winchester actor shared thathe’ll begin filming by the end of March. “I don’t know a whole lot about it, which is effing terrifying. Yeah, I don’t know what we’re doing. I don’t know if we like, bump into each other. I don’t know much about it. They’re still trying to write and figure out who’s gonna be there. But it’ll be the end of this month.”
Padalecki reflected on joiningThe Boys, which is executive produced and showrun bySupernaturalcreator Eric Kripke. He credited his wife, fellow actor andSupernaturalguest star Genevieve Padalecki, for noting thather husband would likely have a weird role. Genevieve, who was present with Jared at the Texas Film Awards, gave her perspective in the quote below:
Jared Padalecki: “I know Eric Kripke very well. I know The Boys very well. He’s like, ‘Hey, you wanna come play?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I think?’ To give credit to my wife, I was like ‘Hey, I think it’s gonna be a weird role. I don’t know what to do.’ And she was like, ‘You excited about it?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ She goes, ‘Then do it.’ I was like ‘OK. You wanna read it first?’ She was like, ’No, if you like it, then do it.’”
Genevieve Padalecki: “Only if you get to be in your birthday suit.”
Jared Padalecki: “I’m sweating now. Literally my text to Eric Kripke was like, ‘Hey, if I’m getting naked, just give me like a month’s notice to eat broccoli and rice and chicken breasts and all day long just sit there doing push-ups.’ It’s f—king terrifying for me.”
What This Means For The Boys
The Show Hasn’t Always Leaned Into Supernatural Connections
It isn’t surprising thatThe Boysfeatures severalSupernaturalactors. It is common for creators and producers to recruit people they’ve enjoyed working with in the past for new projects. In general, outside Ackles' Soldier Boy character, theSupernaturalalums all have varying levels of minor and supporting roles. That may well continue for Collins and Padalecki.
Ackles is also expected to reprise his role of Soldier Boy in the prequel series,Vought Rising.
It is not yet known what theSupernaturalduo will actually be doing. It may be the case that they’ll end up playing fictionalized versions of themselves in a meta-scene, with Ackles also joining in on the fun. They could also play grotesque supes, continuing the grand tradition of the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson adaptation. But whatever scenes they’re in, potentially small guest appearances or even cameos, their addition toThe Boyscastwill nod to their time on the monster-hunting drama one way or another.
