Severancestars Zach Cherry and Michael Chernus pitch a season 3 spinoff storyline that would team Dylan G. and Ricken. The recently-premiered season 2 finale left the fates of severalSeverancecharacters very much up in the air. Dylan G. was back on the SVR’d Floor after his outie rejected his request to quit, leaving Gretchen and both Dylans in their bizarre love triangle. Nowhere to be found in the finale, Ricken has to wait forSeveranceseason 3to further his story, after striking a deal with Natalie to write a book for innies.

But both Dylan G. and Ricken could be in for a surprising narrative arc in season 3, if stars Cherry and Chernus have anything to say about it, as the pair revealed their pitch for aSeveranceside-story where their characters go on a road-trip together (viaDeadline/X). Chernus laid out the basics during a red carpet appearance, and then Cherry confirmed their would-be collaboration:

Ricken Hale (Michael Chernus) looking at Natalie (Sydney Cole Alexander) in Severance season 2, episode 3

CHERNUS: In season 3 I’m just hoping there’s a spinoff side-story where Dylan G. and Ricken become best friends and maybe go on a roadtrip together, and eat beef jerky and listen to mixtapes.

CHERRY: Michael and I are trying to get a road show going. We’re trying to do a spinoff. That’s the game plan, yeah.

What This Means For Severance Season 3

A Dylan G./Ricken Team-Up Seems Highly Unlikely

Cherry and Chernus are just having a little fun with their Dylan G.-Ricken team-up pitch, of course. Their idea may sound funny, but it has almost zero chance of catching on with Dan Erickson, Ben Stiller and the rest of theSeverancecreative team.

That team is indeed in the process of working on season 3, which was confirmed to be happening on the same day theshockingSeveranceseason 2 finalemade its AppleTV+ premiere. Series executive producer Stiller revealed no season 3 story details in his post-confirmation statement, as is to be expected:

Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.

Fans ofSeverancecan expect many more such humorously evasive remarks in the weeks and months to come. Cherry and Chernus, for their parts, know exactly how the no-spoilers game goes, as their jokingSeverancespinoff pitch demonstrates.

Ricken And Dylan Would Make An Interesting Pair

Unserious as Cherry and Chernus’ Dylan G.-Ricken team-up concept may be, the idea is not without its appeal. Innie Dylan and Ricken are arguably the two funniest characters on the show, and combining them would no doubt result in even greater hilarity. Humor is, indeed, a big part of the mix onSeverance, a reflection of Stiller’s influence on the show’s tone, both as executive producer and episode director.

It is entirely possible to imagine anOdd Couple-style scenario involving the foul-mouthed, over-confident Dylan G. and the uptight, wannabe-intellectual Ricken. Sending them on a road trip is the obvious jokey concept to pitch, but there are other possibilities as well, including a literalOdd Couplepairing, casting them as Kier’s own Felix and Oscar (Ricken being Felix and Dylan G. Oscar).

What Will Happen in Severance Season 3?

After that massive cliffhanger in the Severance season 2 finale, Screen Rant has some ideas on what could happen in season 3.

Severanceseason 3 is sure to have its humorous moments, and it’s certain to further explore Dylan G. and Ricken’s particular situations, alongside whatever else Erickson, Stiller and company have in store for their rabid fans. Season 3 may indeed be confirmed, but it does not yet have a premiere date.
