Though Janine and Gregory make grand plans on behalf of O’Shon— from a staged movie premiere to a yacht ride on the Delaware River— their impact on the newAbbott Elementarycouple is rooted in reverse psychology. By stressing Ava’s affinity for material objects and her high-profile dating history (including basketball star Andre Iguodala),Janine and Gregory inadvertently convince O’Shon to be true to himself. The humble tech worker has a minimalist approach: he enters Ava’s office and asks“You want to go out with me?”to which Ava, not looking up from her phone, simply says“Yes.”
