Peacock has delivered a mind-bending terror in the form ofTeacup, but the series won’t be returning for a second season. Very loosely based on the classic horror novelStingerby Robert R. McCammon, the series concerns a family living in rural Georgia who find themselves face-to-face with a mysterious threat at their isolated farmhouse. Reminiscent of recent fears around the COVID-19 pandemic,Teacupplays up the themes of isolation and entrapment while also exploring a mystery framework that is punctuated with shocking body horror elements. With producer James Wan at the helm, the series has everything going for it.

Though adaptations of novels are nothing new in the world of TV and movies,Teacupwas unique because itignored most of its source material. Throughout the development process of the series, the creators were quick to point out thatTeacupborrows loosely from McCammon’sStinger, and radically changes most of the important details. Considering McCammon’s eldritch horror themes (much like H.P. Lovecraft), it’s clear that Peacock’sTeacupaimed for something different entirely. Unfortunately, the burgeoning horror series won’t get another chance, and Peacock has canceledTeacup.

James Wan’s Upcoming Horror Adaptation Is The Thing Sequel I’ve Longed To See

Peacock Pulls The Plug On Teacup

In a wash of other mind-bending horror shows (such asFrom),Teacupfaded into the background.

Teacuparrived on Peacock with little fanfare, and though it got decent marks from critics, the show failed to move the needle in terms of ratings. As such,Peacock opted to cancel the burgeoning horror seriesafter only one season in January 2025. The decision wasn’t all that surprising, andTeacupwas hardly the streaming hit that the NBC platform had hoped for. In a wash of other mind-bending horror shows (such asFrom),Teacupfaded into the background. Despite an endorsement from the King of Horror, Stephen King, the show won’t be returning.

Who Survived Season 1’s Shocking Conclusion?

Though horror shows are known for their body counts, the amount of shocking deaths inTeacupseason 1 was downright brutal. It also eliminated a large amount of cast members from the equation while also deliveringa fair amount of body horrorand gore. Not everyone died though, and there were a handful of characters who could have come back in season 2, including most of the Chenoweth clan.Maggie (Yvonne Strahovski), Arlo (Caleb Dolden), Meryl (Émilie Bierre), and Ellen (Kathy Baker) all escaped the blue circleand would likely have been back in season 2.

A few members of the Shanley family also escaped, with Chaske Spencer’s Ruben and Luciano Leroux’s Nicholas avoiding a gruesome fate. Lone wolf Donald Kelly (played by Boris McGiver) made it out, as didthe mysteriously knowledgeable McNab (Rob Morgan). The final episode also introduced Alice Kremelberg and Jeremy Conner as Izzy and Hayden, respectively, and the shady figures would have likely factored into season 2’s story.

What Lies Beyond The Blue Circle?

As with any puzzle-box-inspired horror series, the ending ofTeacupseason 1just posed more questions to be answered in season 2. Having escaped the blue circle, the various survivors prepare to set out to locate the mysterious machine that Harbinger needs to find. This gave the sophomore season a clear motivation, even if questions still abounded about the machine and Harbinger’s true intentions. Another mystery was Hayden and Izzy, and it will forever remain unclear if they were truly friend or foe.

Teacupseason 2 would have continued the same sort of paranoid mystery that permeated season 1, while also offering the world-building that was lacking during the first outing. Whatever lies beyond the blue circle was perhaps the most intriguing mystery of all, but the show’s premature cancelation means the world will never know what happens next.
