Ahead of the release of the highly anticipatedSupermantrailer, Wendell Pierce, who is slated to playClark Kent /Superman and Lois Lane’s boss, Perry White, shared a behind the scenes shot of himself in character.Supermanalso stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener/Green Lantern, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, among others.The image of Perry, whichPierce shared to X, is the first fans have been shown of the DCU iteration of the Daily Planet editor-in-chief.
Pierce captioned the snapshot, “Here’s a scoop! Superman trailer release in a few hours!,” teasing the character’s profession as a journalist. In the photo, the actor is smoking a cigar in front of a Daily Planet-branded globe. He’s sporting a classic Perry White look with a sweater vest and tie.

Pierce’s photo indicates that his take on Perry will follow more closely to the classic version of the character as presented in the comics.Most of the character’s media adaptations have kept Perry fairly close to his original iteration as a no-nonsense journalist, who respects a good work ethic. He’s rough around the edges and often smokes in the newsroom, but he holds his journalists to strong ethical standards.

Pierce truly looks great as Perry White, and it isn’t a stretch to picture this version of the Daily Planet editor-in-chief trading quips with Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. Hopefully, his characterization and role in the story will live up to the expectations set by this first look. While many aspects of the nextSupermanfilm appear exciting, the film will sink or swim on its ability to immerse audiences in the DCU, and a huge part of that depends on its characters.
