WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Action Comics #1070
Supermanhas dealt with some nasty customers in his time, but one new villain looks to be even more frightening than evenDoomsday. Debuting in the pages of this month’sAction Comics, this new entity is pure nightmare fuel, and should prove to be achallenge for the Man of Steelin what is perhaps the biggest month of the year for DC.

Kicking off a story entitled “Phantoms,”Action Comics#1070 will coincide with DC’s “All-In” initiative beginning this month, designed to be the perfect jumping-on point for new readers looking to check out what’s going on in the DCU.
Starting with this issue,Action Comicsbecomes a weekly publication, as the epic story-line involving the Phantom Zone will run throughout the rest of the year. It all begins with the arrival of the nightmare-inducing creature seen in the preview forAction Comics#1070, which looks to kick off the story with a considerable bang.

Superman’s Mysterious New Phantom Zone Foe Might Be Even Scarier Than Doomsday At His Most Terrifying
A Creepy Kryptonian Enemy Emerges
The preview starts at the Fortress of Solitude, where Superman’s Phantom Zone projector suddenly crackles to life. What appears to be several hands poking through the projector turns out to belong tothe same creature, a horrifying creature that seems to be three Kryptonians fused together. The solicitationsdescribe something wrong in the Phantom Zone, with Superman having to travel into the Kryptonian prison dimension to uncover what’s gone awry. If the fused Kryptonian being seen in the preview is anything to go by,the Man of Steel could be in for a horror showstraight out of Clive Barker’s imagination.
While Action Comics becoming a weekly publication is significant news in 2024, it’s not the first time the title has had such a publication schedule. In 1988-89, the title was rechristenedAction Comics Weekly, where it became an anthology featuring all-new stories starring the likes of Green Lantern, Black Canary, Nightwing and more.

Considering that the story will run weekly throughout the rest of the year, fans will have plenty of time to learn what’s happening in the Phantom Zone. In addition to the main Superman story, readers will also be treated to a backupSupergirl story, which will see the Woman of Tomorrowheading to the stars for an adventure of her own. DC has had success with weekly titles before, such as the landmark52series in 2006 and 2007, and DC seems determined to use this latestAction Comicsweekly run to its advantage to tell an exhilerating tale.
