Stranger Things Season 5 Is Bringing Sara Hopper Back

Sara Hopper Is Jim Hopper’s Deceased Daughter

At the time of writing,Stranger Thingsseason 5 is still filming, and some updates are shared from time to time by the cast and crew without revealing much of the story. The latest update is a casting one, as according toKnight Edge Media, a casting call has gone out forStranger Thingsseason 5 looking to cast Sara Hopper, Jim’s seven-year-old daughter. The casting call looks for a young actress similar to Elle Graham, who played Sara in a flashback scene inStranger Thingsseason 1.

At the time of the events ofStranger Thingsseason 1,Hopper had secluded himself and was struggling to cope with Sara’s loss. On top of that, Sara’s death led to the end of his marriage, so he was now completely alone. Hopper has come a long way sinceStranger Thingsseason 1 and is now in a relationship with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), but there’s still a lot to learn about Hopper’s family before the events of season 1 and, mostly, about Sara’s death and the possible links to all the strange occurrences in Hawkins.

What Happened To Sara Hopper Before Stranger Things?

Details About Sara Hopper’s Death Are Still Unknown

In all four seasons ofStranger Thingsso far, Sara Hopper has only appeared once, in the above-mentioned flashback scene in season 1.Jim Hopper was married to Diane, and they had Sara in 1971. Sara has been described as having been a gifted child with an interest in science, space, and reading. Sara was especially close to Hopper, who would often read to her and play with her. One day, while playing in the park, Sara began to hyperventilate and Hopper tried to help her calm down and regulate her breathing.

Sara was born in the same year as Will, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and most likely Eleven as well, as the details of her date of birth are unclear.

The flashback then cut tothe reveal of Sara’s cancer diagnosis, as well as Hopper and Diane’s efforts to give her the best life they could. As much as Hopper tried to be brave in front of Sara, he would break down in the stairwell of the hospital.Sara passed away in 1978 at the hospital, as doctors did their best to bring her back in front of her parents. InStranger Thingsseason 4, Hopper told Dmitri that, when he served in Vietnam, he was part of a unit that unknowingly mixed the chemicals for Agent Orange.

Hopper also revealed that the kids of the veterans who had contact with those chemicals developed congenital disabilities and other illnesses, which he believes contributed to Sara’s cancer. However, this seems like a very easy explanation, and if there’s one thing thatStranger Thingsdoesn’t do is easy explanations. It has been theorized thatHawkins Lab and Dr. Brenner had something to do with Sara’s death, based on details like the part of the stairwell where Hopper would sob being the same seen in Hawkins Lab in season 2.

No One Is Safe In Stranger Things Season 5

Of course, details about Sara Hopper’s return inStranger Thingsseason 5 are unknown, but it could be hinting at something bad happening to Hopper. Vecna showed in season 4 that he can really mess with anyone’s head, giving them nightmarish hallucinations that feel too real. With Vecna on the loose and the Hawkins crew looking to stop him and close the gates to the Upside Down, Hopper could become one of Vecna’s targets. In order to break Hopper, Vecna could use Sara to give him torturing hallucinationsand make him relive all that pain.

12 Main Stranger Things Characters Ranked By Likeliest To Die In Season 5

Someone is bound to die in Stranger Things season 5. Here’s which characters are the most and least likely to be killed off by the end of the season.

Another possibility could be thatStranger Thingsseason 5 will see Hopper’s death. At this point, no one is safe, and all main characters risk not surviving the final season, so Sara’s return could be one of those afterlife reunions often seen in TV shows and movies. Whatever the case, hopefullyStranger Thingswill use Sara Hopper’s return to fully explain what happened to her.
