Since the game’s launch, grenades and explosives have been a part ofStarfield. Once you throw frags at enemies, you can decimate their lines and bathe them in righteous fire.Starfield: Shattered Spacehas changed the landscape of grenades with five new grenade types that challenge everything you know about typical grenades.
Starfield: Shattered Spacehas a special type of grenade calledVortex Grenades. These grenades don’t just explode but can trigger a variety of different effects depending on which variant you craft. You can only make Vortex Grenades with materials found in the DLC, but they’re quite worth it.
How To Unlock Vortex Grenades
The Promised, Broken
Vortex Grenades will not be available to you as soon as youstartStarfield: Shattered Space. Instead, you’ll have to progress somewhat through the main story of the DLC before you may craft different Vortex Grenades. There are two story quests you’ll have to complete;‘What Remains’ and ‘The Promised, Broken’. The Vortex Grenades are unlocked after completing ‘The Promised, Broken.’
Starfield: Shattered Space - How To Unlock The Keep Armory
The Keep Armory has many prerequisites before it is open to players in Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC but it’s worth all of the time taken.
At the end of the quest, you’ll be able to talk to Ekris Kaisir. Make sure to ask him,“If you’ve got something that can help me, I’d appreciate that.“This will unlock the ability to craft Vortex Grenades. You can craft them at any Industrial Workbench in the game. The nearest workbench can be found among thevendors of Va’ruun’kai inStarfield’scity of Dazra.
How To Craft & Use Vortex Grenades
Vortex Grenade Variants
There are five different Vortex Grenades available inStarfield: Shattered Space.Each crafting recipe requires oneVortex Shard. Vortex Shards are randomly dropped by various Vortex enemies, such as Vortex Horrors or Vortex Phantoms. The grenades also ask for at least one type ofVortex Cyst: a regular Vortex Cyst, a Dark Vortex Cyst, or a Glowing Vortex Cyst. These are also random drops.

The least valuable Vortex Grenade is arguably the Charged variant.
As typical Frag Grenades and explosives do the same job, there’s not much point in spending rare resources crafting this type of Vortex Grenade.Vortex Grenade - Lure, meanwhile, is excellent for causing chaos in a fight and provides the most useful effect of all Vortex Grenades inStarfield: Shattered Space.
