Following the events ofThe Rise of Skywalker,Star Warsis entering a new era, one that will see Rey rebuild the Jedi Order, and succeed whereLuke Skywalker failed. Rey’s New Jedi Order will set the stage for Star Wars stories for years to come, so it’s very important that those who will sit on the Jedi High Council are interesting. Luckily,Star Wars Legendshas already laid out the perfect blueprintfor how canonStar Warscan achieve this - and I know you’ll agree.
InStar Wars: Legacy#25 by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, fans are introduced to the Jedi High Council of the New Jedi Order as it existed in the year 137 ABY. There are only three Jedi on the High Council: T’ra Saa, K’Kruhk, and Tili Qua. For all you casualStar Warsfans reading this, I know you have no idea who these Jedi are, so you might be thinking: ‘Why should I care?’. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s not who these Jedi are that’s so significant, but what they’ve done - and what they’ve lived through.

T’ra Saa was aJedi who fought in the Clone Warsand survived Order 66, as was K’Kruhk, who also survived Darth Vader’s savage Jedi hunt across the galaxy upon the rise of the Empire. Similarly, Tili Qua survived another Jedi Purge carried out by Darth Krayt and his dark side cult, the One Sith, where she saved the lives of many younglings, making her a more recent Jedi hero. These Jedi lived through events that even casualStar Warsfans are more than familiar with - and that’s exactly how it should be forStar Warscanon’s New Jedi Order.
It’s Time for Star Wars to Merge Its Best & Newest Eras with the New Jedi Order
The Eras Star Wars Fans Love Most Should Be the Foundation for Rey’s New Jedi Order
Star Warshas always had a rich history, but in past installments, that history hadn’t been explored when it was first referenced. InA New Hope, Obi-Wan references the Clone Wars before fans had any idea what that was. InThe Phantom Menace, it’s said that a Sith hadn’t been seen for a thousand years, but offered no insight into what theStar Warsuniverse even looked like a thousand years ago.Star Warshas always referenced its rich history to shape the current continuity, but fans were always left in the dark about what was being referenced - until now.
The nextStar Warsfilm starring Reywill reportedly take place in 50 ABY, which is roughly 70 years after the Clone Wars. That means the time periods of the prequel and original trilogies will firmly be considered ‘Star Warshistory’ during the events of this new film, meaning any reference to the past will be one that fans are actively in on. Now, imagine ifStar Warscanon built a Jedi Council the same way it was shown inStar Wars: Legacy.

2024 Said Goodbye to Luke Skywalker’s Yellow Lightsaber, But Here’s Why It Deserves to Return
Luke Skywalker used a yellow lightsaber during an era of Star Wars unofficially known as the ‘Yellow Lightsaber Era’, and it needs to make a comeback.
One member could be asurvivor of the Clone Wars and Order 66, another could have faced and survived Darth Vader, and another could have potentially had a run-in with Kylo Ren. The history of these Jedi wouldn’t be a mystery to fans, and every reference to their past would be to a moment that took place during Star Wars’ best eras, as opposed to some unknown time period that fans have never seen. This would immediately make the New Jedi Council interesting, and would allowStar Wars’ best eras to become the foundation for its newest one.

Star Wars’ New Jedi Council Could Be Even Better than Its Original
The Jedi Council Shown in the Prequel Trilogy were Bureaucrats with Mysterious Pasts
Of course, any Jedi CouncilStar Warscreates in its newest movie will inevitably be compared to the first Jedi Council fans were introduced to in the prequel trilogy. But I’m here to tell you that the new one might be even better than the original. Not only could the New Jedi Council be rooted in a historyStar Warsfans are actually familiar with, but the nature of these particular Jedi could be way cooler than those of the prequels.
The prequels made the Jedi Council a bunch of bureaucrats, and there wasn’t enough known about the history of each member to erase this decidedly lame image of them. The New Jedi Council, however, would consist of heroes and warriors from battles fans know and have experienced, which is just so much cooler.

Star Wars Can Push the Sith So Much Further Than It Does And One Villain Proves It
The Sith in Star Wars canon are utterly fascinating, but the franchise could be doing so much more with them, and one Sith in particular proves it.
With this next installment inStar Warslore, we’re going to get a New Jedi Council one way or another. So, I hope - and I’m confident you’ll agree - that the New Jedi Council looks a lot like the one we saw inStar Wars: Legacy, as that depiction of the High Council is a key transformation inLegendsthatStar Wars’ new era must embrace.
