This article contains spoilers for Silo season 2, episode 10, “Into the Fire.”

Siloshowrunner and executive producer Graham Yost bluntly confirms Bernard’s fate. Given thattheSiloseason 2 finaleseemingly revealed how the world of the Apple TV+ hit came to be, making reference to a dirty bomb and issues between the U.S. and Iran, it can be somewhat taken for granted that the show’s concluding episode also featured the long-awaited showdown between Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) and Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins). Although their brief scene doesn’t quite go as Bernand might’ve expected.

In an interview withTheWrap, Yost confirmed thatBernard does indeed perish in the episode’s fiery explosion. This remains faithful to the Hugh Howey novels. Although the Apple TV+ adaptation parted with the source material in the past and will do so again in the future, Yost leaves little room for doubt about Bernard’s fate. Read the quote below:

I will say that in that final confrontation between them, every word is important. There are certain key words that you’ll see come back big in season 3. I will also say to those who have read the books, Bernard dies at the end of the book, he’s gone. So I would just say that. No one is safe in this show, as we showed in season 1.

How Does Bernard Die & What It Means For Silo Season 2

There Will Be A New Power Structure

In a cruel twist of fate, just as he’s witnessed otherSilocharactersdo, and just as he forced Juliette to do, Bernand goes outside. But before he can make it all the way out, Juliette stops him. She tells him that there may be a way to stop the safeguard procedure. Right then,Silo 18’s airlock decontamination erupts in flames. The finale keeps it ambiguous as to whether Bernard saves. Juliette is safer because of her sturdier protection suit, and the fact that she’s the main character, what happened to Bernard is less readily apparent.

Silo: The Safeguard Procedure Explained

Silo season 2’s ending leaves many questions unanswered but drops enough clues to highlight what the Safeguard procedure is and how it really works.

Juliette could have saved her former enemy. Yost’s direct clarification, however, puts an end to that possibility. In the absence of Bernard, there will be a new struggle for power. That may include Robert Simms (Common), Camile (Alexandria Riley), or any of the underlinings working under Bernard. It will be a point of focus inthe already-confirmedSiloseason 3.

Our Take On Bernard’s Death

It’s A Fitting Send-Off

Bernard was at the end of his rope after learning that he, too, was living a lie all along. The show doesn’t dwell on his death. But it is an appropriate send-off for a man who willingly gave up so much, including people he loved, only to find that it wasn’t worth much at all. It’s the kind of shock that’s hard to come back from, soSiloplayed it well by sticking with the books.
