Why Was It Impossible For Ripley To Appear In Alien: Romulus?

Even A Sequel Return For Ripley Looks Unlikely Due To The Timeline.

Even if there had been conversations about a Ripley cameo, that would have been unlikely due to the timeline inAlien: Romulus. The filming takes place in the year 2142, which is between the events ofAlienandAliens. WhileRipley was alive during the events ofRomulus, she was onboard the escape shuttle while sleeping in her chamber. She wouldn’t be found for another 37 years when she was rescued by Weyland-Yutani Corporation in 2179. Therefore, it would be impossible to feature Ripley due to these circumstances.

Álvarez previously talked about anAlien: Romulussequel, which couldpick up the story of what happens when Rain and Andy travel to Yvaga. The chances of a sequel look strong after making $100 million at the global box office during its opening weekend. Unless Álvarez can find a creative way to incorporate Ripley into the story, it doesn’t sound like Weaver would have any clear plans to rejoin theAlienfranchise any time soon.

While a sequel is yet to be confirmed, it’s still questionable whether a Ripley return is possible. If Álvarez continues with Rain and Andy’s adventure and the follow-up begins with their arrival in Yvaga, that still puts the timeline beforeAliens. That is becauseRain would be traveling for nine years to reach her destination, putting her in the year 2151 when Ripley has yet to be found. Unless Álvarez can find a creative way to incorporate Ripley into the story, it doesn’t sound like Weaver would have any clear plans to rejoin theAlienfranchise any time soon.
