Summary
Shawn Levy’sStar Warsmovie will evidently take place in a brand-new part oftheStar Warstimeline, according to a recent interview. Little is known about Levy’sStar Warsmovie, which is true of multipleupcomingStar Warsmovies. However, withDeadpool & Wolverinenow wrapped up, Levy may very well be shifting his attention to this newStar Warsproject. In fact, Levy’s recent update suggests exactly that and hints that the movie will truly bring something new toStar Warsmovies and TV shows.
In an interview onHappy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Levy spoke about bothDeadpool & Wolverineand his upcoming and so far untitled upcomingStar Warsmovie. Specifically, Levy spoke about his intentions for the movie to be truly innovative in the franchise:

“I’ll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it’s really forced me — because I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.
I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that’s Star Wars to me."

Clearly,Levy intends for hisStar Warsmovie to explore a new era in theStar Warstimeline, meaning that the possibilities truly are wide open.

Star Wars Is Finally Moving Beyond The Skywalker Saga
With this update from Shawn Levy, it’s clear thatyet another upcomingStar Warsproject will be moving beyond the Skywalker Saga. This saga was meant to have ended withStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although it wasn’t immediately clear what that would look like. Everyone in the Skywalker bloodline had died, but Rey did adopt the last name at the end ofThe Rise of Skywalker, raising questions about what this meant for the Skywalker Saga’s supposed end.
The conclusion of the Saga seems to have much more to do with the timeline than the name.
However, the conclusion of the Saga seems to have much more to do with the timeline than the name. Specifically, the Saga began inStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menaceand concluded withThe Rise of Skywalker, signaling that anything coming before or after these periods reflects a story beyond the Skywalker Saga.Star Warshas already introduced a number of projects that will do exactly that.
This began with the franchise’s most recent release,The Acolyte, which was set 100 years beforeThe Phantom Menaceinthe High Republic Era. Although this show did have clear connections to the Skywalker Saga—not only with the ways Osha and Mae were reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker’s story but also with the shocking Yoda cameo at the end of the finale—this was an exploration of a brand-new era on screen.
However, this trend is set to continue with Rey’s upcomingStar Warsmovie, rumored to be titledNew Jedi Order, and a movie set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. The latter is rumored to be titledDawn of the Jediand will explore the origins of the Jedi and the discovery of the Force. The former will presumably see Rey establishing her own Jedi Order and is confirmed to be set 15 years afterThe Rise of Skywalker.
