Summary
NewStar WarsTV shows are reportedly in the works, but what exactly these stories are remains to be seen. Despite a period of TV dominance since 2019,upcomingStar Warsmovieswill see the franchise return to the big screen. That is not to say thatStar Wars’upcoming TV showswill dwindle, withSkeleton CrewandAndorseason 2 expected in 2024 and 2025 respectively. However, an absence of news about Lucasfilm’s small-screen ventures at 2024’s biggest conventions left the future ofStar Wars’TV showsin doubt, begging the question of what comes afterAndor.
Recently, a report byThe InSneiderclaims that moreStar WarsTV shows are in the works at Lucasfilm. The rumor, reported by Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, claims that the idea of Lucasfilm pivoting away from TV and focusing on feature films is inaccurate to an extent.Sneider stated:“I’m told that the company is developing several new shows that simply haven’t been announced yet,“raising questions over what Lucasfilm has planned, and when these reported shows will be officially announced to the public.

Star Wars Just Missed A Massive D23 Opportunity, & I Can’t Understand Why
D23 2024 concluded without many announcements regarding Star Wars' upcoming movies and TV shows, and I’m still trying to figure out why.
What Does Lucasfilm Have Planned For Star Wars?
Star Wars' TV Future Is Still Unclear
In light of this report, it is worth exploring what Lucasfilm has planned for the future ofStar WarsTV. Outside ofSkeleton CrewandAndorseason 2, onlyAhsokaseason 2 is confirmed to be in the works regarding TV productions. If Sneider’s report is true, Lucasfilm is planning other TV installments, yet simply has not announced them, leavingStar Warsfans and anyone else interested in the dark. This begs the question, then, of why Lucasfilm did not use D23 2024 to announce these reported TV shows.
D23 is undoubtedly the biggest convention for all things Disney, with onlyStar WarsCelebration being bigger regarding a galaxy far, far away. D23, unfortunately, featured a lack of Lucasfilm announcements outside of thetrailer forStar Wars: Skeleton Crew. There were no announcements of new TV shows, nor anything concerning upcomingStar Warsmovies. If these reported TV shows Lucasfilm is working on had been announced, it would have left D23 feeling much less underwhelmingthan it was.

The second major question stemming from this report is how Lucasfilm could feasibly craft more TV shows. The studio has committed to releasing threeStar Warsmovies in 2026 and 2027, throwing into question the bandwidth of the studio should more TV productions need to be accommodated. Of course, it will remain unclear if Lucasfilm can handle these projects until they are actually announced, something that could come atStar WarsCelebration Tokyo in 2025. Until then, the future ofStar WarsTV remains frustratingly uncertain, with only reports and rumors serving as any glimpses of new hope.
