Summary
Scarlett Johansson is already part of theTransformersfranchise, but now that Chris Hemsworth has two, she would be perfect for a new role as well. Johansson and Hemsworth are part of the star-studdedvoice cast forTransformers One, which marks both of their debuts in the Hasbro franchise. Their roles, as Elita-1 and Optimus Prime respectively, bring some of Hollywood’s biggest names to the animated feature. While it was thought this would be the only way that either could be involved in the series, Hemsworth has proven that is not the case.
Ahead ofTransformers One’s release, it has been revealed thatChris Hemsworth will star inTransformers 8, the plannedG.I. Joecrossover movie. He is not expected to replace Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime in live-action movies and will likely get a brand new role instead. The expectation is that he’ll be part of the franchise’s new G.I. Joe team. Now that there is a precedent set for aTransformers Onestar getting a new role in the live-action franchise, Paramount should seriously consider bringing Scarlett Johansson aboard as a different character too.

I’m Desperate To See Chris Hemsworth & Scarlett Johansson’s Rejected $500M Live-Action Transformers Movie
At San Diego Comic-Con, Screen Rant’s team learned about a $500-million Transformers project that never came to fruition — and now I want to see it.
Scarlett Johansson Deserves A Live-Action Transformers Role After Transformers One Too
Johansson Is A Major Star
Scarlett Johansson’sTransformers Onecasting is exciting, as she has proven her talents as a voice performer in the past. She appears to be a great choice to play Elita-1 in the animated prequel too. However, it would still be great to see Johansson bring her talents as an action movie lead toTransformersor the larger Hasbro Cinematic Universe. I would not have even considered this as an option if it wasn’t forChris Hemsworth’s newTransformersorG.I. Joecharacter.
On one hand,it could be fun to see Johansson help bring Elita-1 to live-actionfor her first proper role. The previous movies have never done her justice, butTransformers Onelooks to be changing that. This could mean audiences begin associating Elita-1 with Johansson’s voice if she is a big enough standout. But since Hemsworth seems in line for a new human role that gives him an on-screen presence, Johansson is someone who deserves the same opportunity.

Whether its her beloved portrayal of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or action films likeLucy, Johansson has made a name for herself as a credible and bankable action movie star.Transformershas struggled in the past with its female characters, especially during Michael Bay’s era where they were overly sexualized, but bringing someone of Johansson’s talents aboard would help fix that. She would immediately help command the screen and demand a well-written, well-rounded, and fully developed character who can mix it up on the action front. That would be great to see afterTransformers One.
Scarlett Johansson Could Join Chris Hemsworth In Transformers' G.I. Joe Crossover
The Avengers Stars Could Help Form A New Team
The earliest opportunity for Scarlett Johansson to land another role in the universe is by joining Chris Hemsworth in the plannedTransformersandG.I. Joecrossover. His comments about the potential new role indicate that he will switch sides from being the leader of the Autobots inTransformers Oneto someone associated with the G.I. Joe team. This casting happened after Hemsworth and Paramount enjoyed working together on the animated movie. It would be understandable for the franchise to then also look at keeping Johansson around and giving her a physical, on-screen role next.
Hemsworth and Johansson have a strong working relationship predatingTransformers Onethanks to the MCU too. Paramount could bring two of the original five Avengers members into theHasbro Cinematic Universenext to help create added excitement about the crossover.Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' box office was not as big as expected, so adding the G.I. Joe team into the mix for the sequel should bolster the final total. If Hemsworth and Johansson headline the cast as new additions, their combined star power could benefit the crossover further.

There’s Already An Obvious G.I. Joe Character For Scarlett Johansson
One Of G.I. Joe’s Best Characters
Although there is always the chance that Scarlett Johansson could get anotherTransformers-centric role if she decided to be part of the live-action franchise too, there is an obviously perfect part for her to play fromG.I. Joe. The G.I. canon has several different female characters who could be great fits for someone with Johansson’s skills. Lady Jaye, The Baroness, and Zarana could all work, butScarlett would be the best option. The irony of the actress playing a character with the same name aside, Johansson is exactly the type of performer needed to play Scarlett.
In theG.I. Joecanon, Scarlett is among the fiercest and deadliest characters. Her proficiency in combat includes everything from hand-to-hand fights, guns, knives, and her crossbow. There is no doubt thatJohansson could believably bring the red-headed fighter to lifeand make her a standout character similar to Black Widow. It might seem like an obvious piece of casting to some degree, but that does not make it any less ideal of a partnership. And since Johansson’s days as Black Widow are over, finding a direct replacement could give audiences more of her in a similar role.

G.I. Joe Would Be Bigger For Scarlett Johansson Than Transformers One
Franchise Potential Is Massive
Scarlett Johansson joining theG.I. Joeside of the Hasbro Cinematic Universe would also be a bigger deal for her thanTransformers One.The animated movie could be the start of a new trilogythat allows Johansson to play Elita-1 multiple more times. However, the film is not necessarily expected to be a massive box office hit. Even if it is, the voice-only supporting role meansTransformers Onemight not do that much in terms of keeping Johansson as a bankable draw, as some viewers might not even know she’s involved.
That would not be the case if Johansson was part of Paramount’s plans to relaunchG.I. Joe. She’d be prominently featured in the marketing forTransformers 8to showcase her and Hemsworth’s additions through the introduction of the G.I. Joe organization. Johansson would then play a prominent role in theTransformersandG.I. Joecrossover movie’s success - or failure. But assuming that the movie hits after delivering a dream crossover, the future would be even brighter.

If Scarlett Johansson joinedTransformersin a new live-action role associated with the Autobots, she’d always be somewhat secondary to the actual Transformers characters. By becoming part of the G.I. Joe side, she could return for newG.I. Joemovies and be one of the main starsopposite Chris Hemsworth, presumably. It would not even be that surprising if Johansson’s character became popular enough to support a spinoff movie.Transformers Onecan be a hit for her, butG.I. Joecould give Scarlett Johansson a bigger role to play in the expansiveTransformersfranchise.
