However, one artist’s vision of the superpowered siblings shows what they could have looked like if they never fled Transia.
Concept artistAmeen Artworks(@ameen_artworks)often redesigns classic comic characters as medieval knights and samurai. On Instagram, Ameen revealed his concept art ofa What If…? scenariowhere the Maximoff twins remained in Transia and fully embraced their cultural heritage.
Born to a traveling nomadic witch, the twins would have been raised ina mobile environmentthat relied on frequent movement and fast cash. While they would certainly have beentraining in the mystic artsin secret, on the surface, the twins, as Ameen has illustrated, would most likely have become circus performers.

While it isn’t a universal characteristic of the Roma people, traveling circuses were often prime money-making opportunities for traveling camps across Europe. Many of the classic circus talents like juggling, acrobatics, and song and dance were staples of traditional Roma circus acts. In his concept art, Ameen beautifully showsthe gentle balance between traditional Roma clothingand the whimsical embellishments that accompany traditional circus esthetics. Asa What If…? concept, these redesigns showa potentially happier future the Maximoff siblings could have hadif their mother hadn’t left them in Transia.
Wanda and Pietro may have had a better chance at avoiding so much of their lives' pain if they had their mother to guide them.
The twins’ mother, Natalya, wasterrified of the future that her lifestyle would have given her children.Natalya eventually learned the horrific fate her infants endured under theHigh Evolutionary’s experimentation, and, while attempting to save them, seemingly died trying. Knowing that Wanda would later become the Scarlet Witch, a title that her mother carried before her, Wanda and Pietro may have had a better chance at avoiding so much of their lives' pain if they had their mother to guide them. It’s hard not to considerthe butterfly effect that keeping the children could haveon the Marvel universe.
Without the High Evolutionary or Magneto, Who Would the Twins Have Become?
Their Heritage Holds the Key to Their Freedom
Ameen’s depiction of the Maximoff twins represents something greater than flashy new outfits, it represents freedom. A life free of the High Evolutionary’s cruelty. A life free from Magneto’s radical ideology. A life free from the betrayal and hatredthat led to M-Day. While only a taste of what could have been, this fanart delivers a sort of sentimental sadness in hoping that the twins could have grown up surrounded by their own family and people. Fans may never see theScarlet WitchandQuicksilvercompletely return to the roots of their cultural heritage, but at least this art will.
