WhileGrotesquerie’s many Biblical referenceswere tough for the average viewer to decode, it eventually turned out that these were all an elaborate misdirection. In episode 8,Grotesquerieintroduced a new character who was a dream specialist hoping to help Lois interpret her coma dream and work out what it all meant.Santino Fontana played Lois’s charming dream specialist inGrotesquerie, a doctor who was certain that Lois’s dream versions of reality contained a sort of skeleton key to unlocking her real-life issues. The specialist proposed that Lois’s husband, Marshall, was in a coma in her dream world because she felt she had no control over her marriage and this would redress that imbalance. Similarly, her holier-than-thou coworker Megan became a literal nun.

Someone murdered an entire family the way Lois described in her dream, and this made Fontana’s character seem creepier in retrospect.

Fontana’s doctor seemed helpful, and his insights were undeniably compelling. However, it was hard not to be suspicious of the new arrival. After all, until the end ofGrotesquerieepisode 6, the series was a dark, gruesome serial killer thriller. The ending of episode 9 brought back this tone as one of the nastiest killings from Lois’s dream came true in reality. Someone murdered an entire family the way Lois described in her dream, and this made Fontana’s character seem creepier in retrospect. Of course, the actor’s CV didn’t exactly help in this regard given his most famous role.
