Following the success ofReacherseason 1 and 2, a spinoff of the series is currently in the works, and it makes Roscoe’s return after season 3 more likely.Reacheris based onLee Child’sJack Reacherbook series, which sees the title character solve crimes and partner up with different characters in each installment. The anthology nature of Reacher’s story means that he is supposed to have a new supporting character in each season of the show.

Reacherseason 1, which is based on the bookKilling Floor, had Roscoe as the main supporting character with Neagley also occupying a presence in the story.Neagley took over Roscoe’s role as Reacher’s partner in season 2and her character became so popular that aspinoff show titledNeagleywas commissioned. In Lee Child’s version of the story, Roscoe and Reacher do not see each other afterKilling Floor, but Neagley’s absence from the show after season 3 will leave the spot for the supporting character open for Roscoe.

Neagley Getting A Spinoff Means Reacher Will Need A New Supporting Character In Season 4

O’Donnell, Roscoe, Or Finlay Could Replace Neagley In Reacher Season 4

The ending ofReacherseason 2established that Neagley would likely feature in subsequent seasons of the show, by having her suggest to Reacher that they stay in touch. Unfortunately, the cereal-loving character will be seen less frequently afterReacherseason 3 as she will be getting a spinoff series. Although Neagley doesn’t feature as regularly in Lee Child’s books as she does in the series, the fact that she’s getting her own show is great because she’s a compelling character whose story does indeed deserve to be explored further.

Neagley’s Spinoff Is A Huge Blow For Reacher After Season 3

While it’s hard not to be hyped for the Neagley spinoff and wonder how it’ll expand the franchise, it could spell trouble for Reacher after season 3.

As a member of the 110 Special Investigators Unit, Neagley has been a crucial ally to Reacher. Neagley has the second-highest episode count behind Reacher himself. The two have an entertaining dynamic that will be difficult to replicate, but her continuous presence on the show would significantly alter Reacher’s lone wolf persona. There are several characters from the previous seasons ofReacherwho could take Neagley’s place, including O’Donnell, Roscoe, and Finlay.

Why Roscoe Would Be Neagley’s Perfect Replacement In Reacher Season 4

Roscoe Is The Complete Opposite Of Neagley

In Lee Child’s books, Reacher is portrayed as a nomad who doesn’t cross paths with old allies or foes. However, the series has set upReacher’s story in a way that means he’ll need a supporting character in every season. SinceReacherseason 1 endedwith Roscoe giving him her number, and thus opening up the possibility of her return to the show, it would be reasonable for her to replace Neagley.

While Neagley was a great supporting character, she and Reacher are too similar, which would eventually lead to her taking too much of the spotlight away from Reacher, who isn’t meant to share his main character role with anyone. Roscoe, on the other hand, will serve as a cooling agent for Ritchson’s character. Roscoe, unlike Neagley, plays by the book and will likely help keep Reacher’s morals in check. While O’Donnell and Finlay are strong candidates for replacing Neagley, Roscoe would be the most compelling supporting character inReacherseason 4 because of her and Reacher’s connection and their unfinished business.
