Pokémon TCG Pocketis expandingShining Revelry, a new Themed Booster Pack that introduces Shiny Pokémon to the popular mobile game. WithTriumphant Lightnearly a month old, Pokémon TCG Pocket players have wondered what’s next for the popular mobile game. With ranked matches on the way, it was assumed that a new set would be coming soon. However, The Pokémon Company made a surprise announcement that we’ll be getting a brand new mini-set with a new kind of rare card and several popular newer Pokémon fromPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
The Pokémon CompanyrevealedShining Revelry, a new mini-set focused on Shiny Pokémon, will feature Pokémon like Charizard ex, Lucario ex, and Pachirisu with special backgrounds compared to normal cards in the set. Shiny Pokémon will have their own rarity emblem featuring a rainbow-colored star. Additionally, the set will introduce Pokémon from the Paldea region and characters fromPokémon Scarlet and Violetto the game, with Tatsugiri, Sprigatito, and Iono all confirmed for the set.Shining Revelryreleases on March 27 at 2 a.m. EDT.

How Shining Revelry Changes The Game For Pokémon TCG Pocket
New Set Breaks The Norms In Several Ways
The new set makes several big changes to the release schedule and format ofPokémon TCG Pocket. This marks the first time that we’ve gotten two mini-sets that supplement a “main set” likeSpace-Time Smackdown.Broadly speaking, the A2 set (which consists ofSpace-Time Smackdown, Triumphant Light, andShining Revelry) has the same number of booster packs as the A1 sets (Genetic ApexandMythical Island), but it’s still a departure from past releases. There’s a brand-new kind of card, presumably with its own in-pack rarity chances. What could be interesting is whether any Shiny Pokémon get alternate art treatments.
The Pokémon Company also announced thatranked matches, a long-awaited feature, will launch alongsideShining Revelry’s release. The new feature will allow players to battle other players of similar skill levels and earn emblems based on their overall results. The first season will run from March 27 to April 26 and is themed aroundShining Revelry.Based on the timing of the new season, we can likely expect a new full set of cards to be released around April 26.

Our Take: Shiny Pokémon Were A Major Surprise
Shiny Pokémon Are An Interesting Addition, Provided They Aren’t Onerously Rare
The introduction of Shiny Pokémon cards was an unexpected twist forPokémon TCG Pocket. While the “rainbow star” rarity symbol had leaked via datamines, many assumed it would be a new kind of alternate art card and not Shiny Pokémon. Technically, Shiny Pokémon appear to be a different style of alternate art card themselves, but I’m interested in seeing just how rare these new types of cards are in the game.
Personally, I’m not a fan of Shiny Pokémon card sets in the physicalPokémon TCGbecause of how the rare cards are distributed, but I’m intrigued as to whetherPokémon TCG Pocketcan learn from the physical game’s shortcomings.
