As you playPath of Exile 2, you’ll inevitably pick up a lot of equipment you can’t actually use. Most often, you’ll find equipment that’s simply of the wrong typefor your current character class. You can sell it, deconstruct it using the Salvage Bench, disenchant it with the help of certain merchants, or transfer it to another character using the stash. These all help turn items you don’t need into more utilitarian ones, but don’t cover every possible type of useless loot.

What happens when you find an item that you can equip with your current character, but it’s much worse than everything you already have? Well, you can sell, dismantle, or disenchant it as per usual, but that feels wasteful. In that case, there’s an alternative option: the Reforging Bench. This unique crafting optionallows you to exchange multiple types of the same item for a chance at rerolling its stats, and more often than not, the results are better than the sum of their parts. Here’s how to find and use the Reforging Bench inPath of Exile 2.

How To Unlock The Reforging Bench

When To Unlock The Reforging Bench

The Reforging Bench doesn’t become available until Act 3 ofPath of Exile 2, so if you’ve just started the game, you’ve got a long wait ahead before you can start rerolling your equipment. Either way, at some point during Act 3, you’ll take on a quest called “Legacy of the Vaal,” during which you’ll arrive at a new area called The Drowned City.

If You Aren’t Playing Path Of Exile 2 Right Now, You’re Your Own Worst Enemy

Despite being early access, Path of Exile 2 is a brilliant evolution of the ARPG genre that deserves a play now, and will no doubt deserve many more.

Once you’ve completed that quest, return to the Ziggurat Encampment, and locate an NPC called Oswaldnear the northwestern corner of the screen. Speak to him to begin a quest called “Treasures of Utzaal,” and you’ll be on your way to unlocking the Reforging Bench.

Beating The Molten Vault & Mektul

Follow the quest marker to the adjacent Drowned City, and to the dungeon known as The Molten Vault. This would be a good time to equip any fire-resistant gear and ice magic you have, as, in case the location name didn’t clue you in, you’re in for a fight against a fire-based horde of enemies. Enter the Vault and fight your way through untilyou run headfirst into Mektul, The Forgemaster.

You’ll want to be about level 40 to take on the Molten Vault.

Mektul is a tough bosswho dishes out massive waves of fire damage. Thankfully, he’s pretty sluggish, and has a lengthy cooldown time between most of his attacks. Keep one finger on the dodge button, and make the most of the downtime by hitting him as hard as possible. This fight is on a four-minute timer; if you fail to complete it before the limit, the room will fill with lava, and you’re guaranteed to die. Just use cold damage and, once you get a good grip on his attack patterns, you should be able to defeat him fairly easily.

How To Unlock & Upgrade Skills In Path Of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 has revamped its skill system to make it a smoother experience while still keeping the powerful impact from its predecessor.

Once Mektul is dead and you’ve claimed the Hammer of Kamasa, open a portal back to town and see Oswald again.Just like that, you’ll have the Reforging Bench unlocked, and you can get started on rerolling your loot immediately. You’ll also receivean Uncut Skill Gem.

How To Use The Reforging Bench

Requirements & Rerolls

From here on out, you’ll find a Reforging Bench in every town. You can also place one in your hideout if you’re so inclined. To use it, walk up to it and interact with it like any other crafting station.

In order to use the Reforging Bench, you’ll need to place three items of the same type and rarity (e.g., three normal axes) into one side, which will be combined into an item of the same type, but with entirely different stats. The reforged items will be destroyed in the process. The item you get depends entirely on those you put in; don’t expect to get, say, a Soul Core by putting in gear. These are all the items you can use with a Reforging Bench:

A Witch and a Warrior from Path of Exile 2.

Remember, you’ll always need three of the input items, and you’ll always only get one. While most rerolls are random, Waystones and Distilled Emotions always reward items of higher tiers. Keep in mind, also, that there are some additional restrictions on the items you can use in the Reforging Bench: for example, corrupted items are forbidden.

You’ll have to identify most rerolled items using the Hooded One or a Scroll of Wisdom before you can see their full capabilities.

Finally, note thatthe item level of the output will be the same as the lowest-levelitem you sacrifice. Ideally, you’ll want to throw in three items of roughly the same item level to ensure you don’t waste two high-level pieces in order to get just a single low-level one.

Path Of Exile 2 Feels Like A Soulslite, & It Works

Path of Exile 2 has innovated to feel similar to this popular genre, and while it may not be perfect right now, is a great sign for the future.

And with that, you should know everything you need to know to start rerolling items using the Reforging Bench. As for the rest, you’ll have to learn it by experimenting with the Reforging Bench and seeing what you get inPath of Exile 2.
