Warning! Spoilers for Outlander season 7, episode 10 ahead!

Outlanderseason 7, episode 10 brought two characters together for the first time, setting up one of the books' more disgusting moments to potentially play out next. This installment of the fantasy series has seen Roger MacKenzie travel back in time with his ancestor, William “Buck” Buccleigh MacKenzie, in search of his kidnapped son, Jemmy. However, rather than emerging from the stones in the 1770s as he expected, Roger and Buck discovered that they had landed in 1739. This is precisely what happened in Diana Gabaldon’sWritten in My Own Heart’s Blood—so book readers know what may happen next.

It became clear to Roger that he was in a different time than he had expected inOutlanderseason 7, episode 9, when he met Brian Fraser, Jamie’s father, at Lallybroch. Of course, this wasn’t the only familiar face Roger would see. At the end of this episode, he met Geillis Dunkan while searching for a healer for Buck. Then, inOutlanderseason 7, episode 10, Dougal MacKenzie turned up at Geillis' home, seemingly meeting the woman for the first time. This is rather intriguing sinceGeillis and Dougal are Buck’s parents, whom he had never met. Still, this isn’t quite a heartwarming reunion.

Outlander Is Setting Up Its Oedipus Moment

Neither Buck nor Geillis knew they were mother and son inOutlanderseason 7, episode 10—though Roger himself is uncomfortably aware. So, as flirty Geillis began seeing to Buck’s discomfort, there was a moment of evident sexual attraction between them. Buck could hardly keep his eyes off the woman and seemed to forget about his upset stomach completely. Of course, this is rather gross, given their familial relationship. Still,Geillis and Buck’s meaningful glances are nothing compared to their worst moment in theOutlanderbooks, which this season 7 episode seems to be setting up.

Buck & Geillis Share An Intimate Moment In The Outlander Books

Will Outlander Continue This Story?

In theOutlanderbook,Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, Buck has some alone time with Geillis, after which he reports that he shared a kiss with her and placed his hands on several explicit parts of her body. By this point in the story, Roger has already told Buck the truth about Geillis. The manknows very well in the book that the woman he had a sexual encounter with is his mother, and it’s clear to Roger that he is quite pleased with himself. Naturally, this is a moment in theOutlanderbooks that made Roger and readers alike rather uncomfortable.

Buck’s look of interest and lust in Outlander season 7, episode 10, seems to be setting up this sexual encounter for future episodes.

Richard Rankin as Roger and Diarmaid Murtagh as Buck Mackenzie in Outlander season 7 episode 7-1

Buck’s look of interest and lust inOutlanderseason 7, episode 10, seems to be setting up this sexual encounter for future episodes. Roger and his several-times-great-grandather should be spending a while longer in 1739 as the mystery of Roger’s father unfolds. This will be a far more heartwarming story, but it may be eclipsed by seeing mother and son together on screen this way. Of course, it’s possible that episode 10 is as far as theOutlanderseries will take things, and the more mature moment from the books will be left out. Only time will tell.
