TheDCUcould host a big reunion for Jason Momoa and the originalDeadpool 2director now that the former’s dream casting asLobohas come true.Aquaman’s JasonMomoa will soon become a DC movie veteranafter recently being cast as Lobo in the DC Universe, a casting that he and many DC fans have been chasing for years. Momoa will debut as the DCU’s “Main Man” inSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is slated to be released on July 14, 2025. As yet, no solo Lobo project has been confirmed, however.
If a soloLobo project is on the cards for the DCU,Deadpool 2director David Leitch has thrown his hat into the ring to direct, replying to Momoa’s Lobo announcement onInstagram(viaCollider), “let’s do a Lobo feature.” It remains to be seen whether Lobo will even survive hisdebut inSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, although the character’s popularity among DC fans certainly makes a solo project tenable. The no-holds-barred bounty hunter also draws more than a few parallels to Deadpool, making Leitch’s pitch to get involved another enticing prospect - and it would involve a fitting reunion.

David Leitch’s Lobo Would Be A Fall Guy Reunion
Jason Momoa Stars As Himself In The Fall Guy’s Ending
David Leitch most recently directedThe Fall Guy, which stars Ryan Gosling as protagonist Colt Seavers. Jason Momoa appears inThe Fall Guy’s ending scene, starring inThe Fall Guy’s movie-within-a-movie,Metalstorm. Momoa replaces Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Tom Ryder asMetalstorm’s lead actor (for which Colt Seavers is the stunt double), though his is a meta role as he stars as himself. If Momoa and Leitch were to work on a solo Lobo project, it would therefore comprise a reunion between the actor and director.
David Leitch also worked as a 2nd unit director for 2011’sConan the Barbarian, in which Jason Momoa starred as the eponymous hero.

The acclaimedThe Fall Guyis a prime example of Leitch’s action movie chops, whileDeadpool 2proves how well he works with comic book adaptations. With Lobo being a hyper-violent intergalactic bounty hunter with a foul mouth and irreverent attitude, it’s easy to see how Leitch’s experience with Deadpool and action movies in general would perfectly translate to thispotential DCU project. Without confirmation that Lobo’s DCU tenure will extend beyondSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, however, Leitch’s DCU involvement is purely up for speculation.
Our Take On David Leitch Directing Lobo
David Leitch’s Directing Role Would Be As Perfect As Jason Momoa’s Casting
Deadpool 2is amongthe best Marvel movies ever made, and helps to illustrate just how invaluable Leitch would be to the DCU reboot. Lobo and Deadpool are among the most comparable Marvel and DC characters, although the former predated the latter by seven years in their comic book history. With that in mind,I think it’s no wonder that Leitch is striving to be involved with a Lobo project- and just as Jason Momoa is the perfect actor for the role ofLobo, I think Leitch has proven he is the perfect candidate for director.
DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
