Summary
Move over, Yuffie - there’s only one obvious choice of star forFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s DLC. Square Enix has announced that it’s not planning DLC forFF7 Rebirth, although developers did consider a Queen’s Blood-centric expansion. Still, there’s demand fora more character-focused DLC, akin toFF7 Remake’sEpisode INTERmission.
INTERmissionfollowed Wutaian ninja Yuffie Kisaragi, exploring some of her backstory before introducing her to the party proper inRebirth. As fun as her ninja adventures were,it may be time for another, hopefully soon-to-be-playableFF7character to take the spotlight inRebirth’s DLC.

FF7 Remake Part 3 Devs Confirm At Least One Bit Of Fan-Favorite Content Will Return
The developers behind the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy confirm that one beloved Rebirth minigame will be improved for the third installment.
Vincent Deserves His Own FF7 Rebirth DLC
If any character is deserving of their very ownFF7 RebirthDLC, it’s Vincent Valentine. Much like Yuffie, Vincent was only an optional character in the originalFF7, which means he was pretty light on story content. His recruitment is mandatory inFF7 Rebirth, but even so, players scarcely get a chance to explore his background outside his introductory scene. This opens up the perfect opportunity for DLC: much likeINTERmissioncreated a tragic backstory for Yuffie, Vincent’s own DLC could dive back into his past, giving players a chance to get to know Vincentbefore he returns inFF7 Remake Part 3. Vincent’s early days with the Turks, and his tangential involvement with the Jenova Project, would also provide a lot of important context to the lore.
Vincent isn’t even a playable characterinRebirth, which creates another gap for DLC to fill.INTERmissionintroduced players to Yuffie’s unique ninja playstyle before she became a permanent party member inFF7 Rebirth. If Vincent truly is to be playable in the sequel, as many fans hope, then aRebirthDLC would make the perfect proving grounds for his combat style. Players could get acquainted with Vincent’s long-range weapons and vampiric Limit Break before gaining full control over him inPart 3, flattening the learning curve and building him up to be a stronger character in the sequel.

An FF7 Spinoff Provides The Perfect Inspiration For Vincent DLC
What FF7 Rebirth Could Learn From Dirge Of Cerberus
As it turns out,Vincent has already been the (almost) sole playable protagonist of his own standalone game,Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7. It plays like a third-person shooter, and takes place three years afterFF7, as Vincent fends off the dregs of the Shinra military organization Deepground, and discovers a terrible secret hidden in his very DNA. Since it’s a direct sequel, it’ll probably be a few years beforeDirge of Cerberusgets a real remake, if Square decides it’s worth remaking at all. Until then, a Vincent DLC could serve a similar purpose.
Although Vincent is the main protagonist ofDirge of Cerberus, he’s not the only playable character - Cait Sith is technically playable in a special level.

Dirge of Cerberuswasn’t as well received as mostFF7properties - both its gameplay and its story came under critics' fire. Buta Vincent DLC forFF7 Rebirthwould be the perfect chance to begin atoning forDirge’s sins. Square could use it to test the waters of anFF7shooter with a much smaller, lower-stakes project, and build on its strengths when it comes time to weigh options for a potentialDirge of Cerberusremake.
FF7 Rebirth’s World Makes No Sense, But Gaia Never Did To Begin With
One element in particular doesn’t add up, but it doesn’t necessarily need to, especially when considering the original game’s approach.
Ultimately, though, this is all just speculation. Square Enix hasn’t confirmed any plans forRebirthDLC. Even the Queen’s Blood expansion was just a specter of an idea. Still, players want moreFF7to ease the wait for the remake’s final chapter.Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthalready has the perfect DLC setup in Vincent - Square Enix only needs to decide to use it.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and will see Cloud and his friends set off beyond the walls of Midgar to explore the world, stop Sephiroth’s machinations, and see the world outside their slum prison. Now that the whispers of fate no longer guide the characters along the pre-destined path set in the original PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7, the heroes (and villains) will shape the future. The game will still visit prominent locales and revisit crucial story points, but it will be a more significant departure from the first game from the source material.
