The disappointment fromNCIS: Hawai’i’s cancelation still hasn’t been alleviated after CBS canceled the hitNCISshow, and it is about to get worse.NCIS: Hawai’iwas one of the more vibrantNCISspinoffs, and its wonderful scenery and cast made its cancelation all the more painful. Even so, there has been hope that the network could reverse its decision or at least bring some characters back through the flagship. However,NCISseason 22is proving that is not likely.
The flagship series has featured many cameos and crossovers from the rest of theNCISuniverse ever since it first aired in 2003. It even included anNCIS: Hawai’icrossover a few seasons back. However, season 22’s latest cast announcement has revealed thatNCIS’s newest guest star is someone with close ties to the Hawaiian team, making their solo appearance comparable to rubbing salt in the wound.

LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna Is Confirmed To Appear In NCIS Season 22
LL Cool J Will Appear In Episode 18
Via a post on the NCISverse’sInstagrampage, thefranchise announced thatLL Cool J is returning forNCISseason 22. He will appear alongside Parker’s (Gary Cole) MCRT, likely aiding in solving a case. No additional information was given about his part in the show, but it is safe to assume thathe will be reprising his role as Sam Hanna, one ofNCIS: Los Angeles' best characters.
This will not be the first time that LL Cool J has appeared in the flagship, asSam has been a regular guest star on the show ever sinceNCIS' first crossover withNCIS: Los Angeles. While he usually appears with the rest of his team, it is not unusual for him to do a crossover event alone. Sam has particularly been a helpful ally to theNCISteam as he has used his unique skills of being both a special agent and former Navy SEAL to aid the team in solving their cases.

Sam Was Last Seen Working With Jane Tennant On NCIS: Hawai’i
Sam Was Integral To NCIS: Hawai’i
While originally a main character ofNCIS: Los Angeles,Sam slowly built his way up to becoming a recurring character inNCIS: Hawai’ias well. He began as a guest star in season 2 before becoming a valuable asset to the team in season 3.Sam’s increased appearances inNCIS: Hawai’ioverlapped with the cancelation ofNCIS: Los Angeles, which gave LL Cool J the perfect opportunity to join the Hawaiian team.
10 NCIS Characters From Canceled Spinoffs That I Wish Would Return
I wish NCIS would return these pivotal spinoff characters to the NCIS universe after making frustrating cancelations to their home series.
As a result, the last time Sam was seen in theNCISfranchise, he was working closely withNCIS: Hawai’i’s Jane Tennant(Vanessa Lachey). Sam held such a significant role with this team and with Jane that seeing him appear onNCISalone now is almost painful. His appearance inNCISseason 22 should be good news, but because of his connection toNCIS: Hawai’i, it just serves as a reminder of what CBS chose to give up.

Why Sam Hanna Is Appearing In NCIS Season 22
While not many details have been revealed about Sam’s role in the upcomingNCISseason 22 episode, it is safe to assume that he is appearing inNCISto tie the spinoffs together again.NCISseason 22 already featured an episode that referenced all the flagship’s spinoffs that are set in the present day. InNCISseason 22, episode 13,McGee’s children were part of a coffee fundraiser for their school. Kasie loved the coffee so much that she helped McGee out by reaching out toNCIS’ satellite offices and asking the other agents if they wanted to contribute.
Sam’s appearance inNCISseason 22 could then be furthering his connection back to the other offices.

Sam was not mentioned by name in the episode, but his former teams inNCIS: Hawai’iandNCIS: Los Angeleswere.NCIS: Hawai’i’s Jane Tennant, and Ernie Malik were listed as buying coffee for the office, and so wereNCIS: Los Angeles’ G. Callen and Kensi Blye. Sam’s appearance inNCISseason 22 could then be furthering his connection back to the other offices. He worked closely with the teams so maybe he could provide an update on what they have been up to since we last saw them.
NCIS Finally Reveals The Mystery Identity Of Parker’s Lily (How Does It Impact The Show & Alden’s Future?)
After months of speculation, NCIS season 22 finally reveals the origins of Parker’s Lily mystery, but it still has a few more mysteries left.
Sam has always been a great character, andmaybe he is the key to tying all the offices together. He was a significant character inNCIS: Los Angelesand his time on that show was as an excellent foundation for him to later be introduced toNCIS: Hawai’i. He also works great with Wilmer Valderrama’s Nick Torres, so he is an excellent ally to the MCRTteam, too. Seeing him inNCISseason 22 is something to look forward to because his appearances will act as a reminder of all the exciting spinoffs thatNCIShas created over the years.

Can Main NCIS: Hawai’i Characters Also Appear In NCIS? (How?)
There Are Several Ways To Bring Back Jane’s Team
There are a few possibilities for how the otherNCIS: Hawai’icharacterscan reappear inNCIS. The main possibility is Jane reappearing via her connection with Nick. During theNCISandNCIS: Hawai’icrossover episodes,Jane and Nick had noticeable romantic chemistry. Their interactions even implied that they had been a couple before, or had at least had a brief fling. However, nothing came of it. There has always been an interesting tension around them, but neither has acted on their interests, which means their interactions have remained limited outside the crossover episodes.
It’s Easy To Forget That NCIS Is Actually A Spinoff, But These 3 JAG Character Cameos Are An Effective Reminder
The NCIS franchise is so successful that it is hard to remember it started as a JAG spinoff, but there are some cameos that act as a great reminders.
Jane’s appearance inNCISwas likely until Nick started dating Jessica’s sister, Robin. Since then, all hopes for Jane to be featured again inNCISvia her romantic connection with Nick have practically been killed. As Nick and Robin’s relationship becomes more serious, it also lowers the possibility that they will break up.It is still possible for Jane to return as a colleaguefor the MCRT, however, she is not the only character with the possibility to reappear in the flagship.

Just becauseNCIS: Hawai’ihas stopped airing, it doesn’t mean that the team has stopped working. As such,NCIScould liaise with their satellite office in Hawai’i for help at any time.
NCIS: Hawai’i’s other characters like Ernie Malik, Jesse Boone, and Kate Whistler all have strong possibilities of joining the original series as well. Each member of theNCIS: Hawai’iteam has invaluable skills which made the team so great. They could easily apply these skills to their work onNCISif they were to appear in a crossover episode or in a small cameo. Just becauseNCIS: Hawai’ihas stopped airing, it doesn’t mean that the team has stopped working. As such,NCIScould liaise with their satellite office in Hawai’i for help at any time.
