Summary
PlayStation Plus' growing catalog of games is getting even larger next month with a day-one release of what could be the surprise hit of 2024, an indie action-adventure game calledThe Plucky Squire.Earlier in July, the service added a host of awesome games likeBorderlands 3andRemnant 2and has alreadyannouncedFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breachfor this monthas well. Next month, Sony is continuing with the hits by introducing the colorful new adventure to the platform.
The Plucky Squire, a vibrant 2D & 3D action-adventure game, is coming toPlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions on June 14, 2025. Players will take on the role of Jot, the game’s protagonist, through aheroic journey across the pages of a book. The game includes two distinct game styles and modes as Jot traverses from the 2D pages of his storybook to the 3D realm.

Although the game looks to be for a younger audience, it’s being published by Devolver Digital, which is widely recognized as one of the best indie publishers in the industry, having releasedwell-received titles likeCult of the Lamb,Hotline Miami, andInscryption(none of which are for a younger audience). The Plucky Squireis being developed by All Possible Futures, a relatively young indie studio founded in 2019 by Jonathan Biddle and James Turner and has the potential to follow in the footsteps of these highly-touted Devolver titles when it comes to the platform on September 17.
Inscryption Review: A Horror Deckbuilder Like No Other
Inscryption’s compelling meta-narrative pairs perfectly with its strong deckbuilding fundamentals, creating an incomparable horror CCG experience.
The Plucky Squire Looks Promising
An Adventure Game For All Ages
Both the 2D and 3D worlds ofThe Plucky Squirelook colorful, engaging, and fun, with interesting environments and creatures. In addition, the gameplay seems pretty crisp from early videos andincludes fun hack-and-slash combatas Jot traverses both universes with his trusty sword and an arsenal of abilities like a sword throw or spinning whirlwind technique.
There also appear to be somefascinating puzzle scenarios where the 3D model of Jot jumps into 2D elementswithin the 3D world. One gameplay video shows Jot in his 2D form with a jetpack, rotating a curved column in an interesting gameplay segment.

The melding of styles and art adds a unique flair that could make the puzzles more engaging, with 3D adventuring elements reminiscent of older 3D action RPGs of the past. Much like Devolver’s smash hit of 2022,Cult of the Lamb, it looks likeThe Plucky Squirecould have the right ingredients to set itself apart from other indie games out right now. The addition of the title day one on PlayStation Plus on September 17 will also help introduce it to a wider audience.
