Although the mainDestinyfranchise is continuing to receive updates afterDestiny2’s last expansion,The Final Shape, the announcement of a new mobile game set in theDestinyuniverse could give fans something else to look forward to. Since the release of the originalDestinyin 2014, the franchise has received several expansions and one major sequel,Destiny 2, but developer Bungie has announced no plans to develop more games in the franchise.

As of October 14, however,Destiny: Risinghas been announced as a new mobile game set in theDestinyuniverse, with a cinematic trailer and an upcoming closed alpha test starting on November 1. How Destiny: Rising’s Gameplay Will Work

As a game,Destiny: Rising’s first previews show that the game is attempting to faithfully adapt the gameplay ofDestinyto a mobile platform, with the ability to swap between first-person and third-person perspectives, 6-player co-op missions, PVE and PVP game modes, and more casual or group-oriented social elements. WhereDestiny: Risingseems to differ from the main games, however, is in its playable characters, asRisingwill allow players to choose from variousDestinycharacters alongside the game’s customizable main protagonist, “Wolf”.

Additionally, the game’s gear system is a somewhat stripped-down version ofDestiny’s, giving players two slots for weapons (one Primary and one Power) and one slot for a Relic, with each character having different equipable weapon types, and Relics influencing a character’s abilities. Additionally,Risingwill include multiple new PVE and PVP game modes on top of the standard modes already present in the mainDestinygames.

Our Take: Is A Mobile Destiny-Style Game Just What Fans Need?

Destiny: Rising Is A Promising Concept With Some Big Red Flags

Of course, with bothDestinyandDestiny 2being exclusive to non-portable consoles and PC,a mobileDestinygame could fill an in-demand niche for the franchise, allowing fans to playDestinyon the go. Unfortunately, however,Destiny: Risingdeveloper NetEase doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to monetization in other mobile games, and, in my own personal experience, mobile game adaptations of established game franchises, likeDiablo ImmortalorDevil May Cry: Peak of Combat, often fail to match up to the quality of the original games.

How To Earn The Legend Title In Destiny 2

Bungie recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Destiny with the Legend title released for Destiny 2, earnable by completing various activities.

Additionally, while it hasn’t been confirmed, the focus on a cast of individual characters might imply thatDestiny: Risingcould be using a gacha system, which, while accepted in the likes ofGenshin Impact, may still prove controversial forDestinyfans looking to check out the game. If handled correctly,Destiny: Risingcould be a very appealing prospect for fans of theoriginalDestinygames, but doubts about the game’s business model may hold it back.
