Monster Hunter Wildsfinally allowed players to try out the next-generation installment in the franchise with its open beta last year, letting players hunt a handful of exciting new monsters in a gorgeous desert landscape. While theMonster Hunter Wilds' beta offered an incredibly fun glance into the full release, it wasn’t without its share of issues. Although it was expected that not every feature would be included in the shorter experience thatMonster Hunter Wildswas offering, it was still missing one vital mechanic that would have benefited both new and returning players.

Thankfully, for fans who missed out on the first beta or those who simply want to see more of whatMonster Hunter Wildshas to offer, asecond beta playtestis being launched in early February. While the second beta is an exciting prospect, it’s confirmed that it will not fix many criticisms over the initial beta, like hitstop, weapon moves, and optimization. However, these are planned to be ironed out when it finally launches. While exploring unique areas and encountering new enemies is more than enough to look forward to, it also givesMonster Hunter Wilds' fans another chance to prepare for its full release.

A shocked Palico and a PC in front of the Windward Plains In Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds' Beta Didn’t Have A Training Area

Preventing Players From Practicing Their New Weapon Moves

Even though it wasn’t too surprising that many of the standard Gathering Hub features were excluded from the open beta, especially given its100-player lobbies, the absence of a Training Area was a sorely missed exclusion. While the absence of a training area wasn’t too shocking given that it didn’t appear in the playtests for previous installments likeMonster Hunter Rise, players did have a single opportunity to practice with their weapons.

During the introduction segment ofMonster Hunter Wilds, players can swing or fire away at an invincible barrel, being able to swap between weapons using a nearby chest to practice and figure out what fits their playstyle best.

While this was a great start to helping new players figure out what weapon they wanted to try out first, it was completely absent from the rest of the beta, requiring players to restart their game and finish the introduction once more to gain access to it once more.Thankfully, a post from the officialMonster Hunteraccount on X has confirmed the Training Dummy will make an unsurprising return in the full gamewhile also showing off what the updated hitstop will look like in the final release.

Piloted by what seems to be a mechanically inclined Palico, theMonsterHunter Wilds' Training Dummy is a chariot-shaped machine covered in barrels of carrying sizes, letting players unleash a flurry of combos at it to their heart’s content.

Given thatevery weapon inMonster Hunter Wildsreceives an updated set of moves with varying degrees of intensity, a Training Area is absolutely necessary for a fullMonster Hunterexperience. While it hasn’t been confirmed whether the second beta test will include this helpful feature, the herbivore wildlife in the area is always a safe bet for practice, albeit somewhat annoying to chase down.

Could Monster Hunter Wilds Introduce A New Weapon?

A 15th Weapon Would Add Even More Excitement To The Newest Installment

One of the most common topics of fan speculation alongside eachMonster Hunterrelease is whether the developers will add a 15th weapon to the standard pool, with the revamped training room being a perfect opportunity to learn one for the first time. While many fan theories over new weapon inclusions are wild speculation at best,it wouldn’t be the first time a new entry in the franchise has expanded its classic weapon pool.

Monster Hunter Wilds Hands-On Preview: The Most Approachable Franchise Entry Yet

Screen Rant traveled to Osaka to go hands-on with Monster Hunter Wilds and left impressed with how detailed and accessible the upcoming title is.

With each of these weapons only appearing in one entry or spin-off game of the long-lived series, the Accel Axe, Magnet Spike, Tonfas, and Medium Bowgun have largely been forgotten over the years.

The Accel Axe, Magnet Spike, Tonfas, and Medium Bowgun have largely been forgotten over the years.

While the medium bowgun is the least interesting of the bunch, the Tonfa’s could easily see a toned-down return given the fast-paced combat changes made to the series. However, the Accel Axe and Magnet Spike would require even more work to fit into the identity of the main series. While there’s no doubt that these weapons would make exciting additions toMonster Hunter Wilds, they’re not likely to return any time soon based on both the resources required to update them to modern standards, combined with the community’s image ofMonster Hunter’s core identity.
