Leucistic Baryonyx Dinosaur Explained: Abilities & How It Was Made

The Leucistic Baryonyx May Be Blind, But That Only Makes It More Dangerous

The Leucistic Baryonyx is one of the dinosaur variantsthat appears inJurassic World: Chaos Theoryseason 2, and it boasts some impressive unique attributes. A genetically modified variant of the Baryonyx, the scinetist Dr. Sarr is responsible for the genetic design and creation of the Leucistic Baryonyx. For the most part, the creature is similar to other dinosaurs of its genus. This means the creature is quick on its feet and can either use razor sharp claws or powerful jaws to dispatch targets.

What Happened To Brooklynn In Jurassic World: Chaos Theory

Netflix’s Jurassic World: Chaos Theory explores what happened to Brooklynn the night of the allosaurus attack and why she was there to begin with.

However, it’s one of the genetically modified dinosaurs that was created within the labs belonging to Soyona Santos, akaChaos Theory’s Broker. Dr. Sarr specifically modified the dinosaur to be born without eyes, rendering it blind. As a result, the creature’s other senses, such as smell and hearing, are signifigantly enhanced. This allows the creature to be a threat in darkened envrioments, which Santos quickly equates to military application. The Leucistic Baryonyx is also capable of being trained, as Dr. Sarr. proves. However, the creature can break free of its conditioning, which happens in “Reunion” and leads to Sarr’s demise.

How The Leucistic Baryonyx Compares To The Indominus Rex

One Was A Hybrid, One Was Just Genetically Modified

The Leucistic Baryonyx is reminiscent of other genetically modified dinosaurs that have appeared in theJurassic Worldfranchise. This includes the most infamous original dinosaur within the modern version of the series, the Indominus Rex. Introduced inJurassic Worldand serving as a major threat during the events ofJurassic World: Camp Cretaceousseason 1, the Indoinus Rex was also genetically modified as a unique variant of previous dinosaurs. Both were effective hunters and deadly killers, with a speed and intellect that matched their ferocity.

However, there is one notable difference in those two man-made dinosaurs, one that highlights the direction the franchise seems to be taking with the creatures going forward. The Indominus Rex was specifically designed as a hybrid dinosaur, with DNA taken from both a T. Rex and a Velociraptor, along with plenty of other animal attributes that are found in theJurassic Parkfranchise’s approach to the animals. By contrast, the Leucistic Baryonyx is seemingly derived from a single dinosaur, but has been uniquely modified to give it certain attributes.

Is The Leucistic Baryonyx A Sign Of Jurassic World’s Dinosaur Future?

Dinosuars Could Be The Weapon Of The Future

Given Santos' decision at the end ofJurassic World: Chaos Theoryseason 2 to destroy the Senegal labs, the Leucistic Baryonyx is seemingly killed in the ensuing exsplosion. However, this development could be a portent for the overall direction of the franchise going forward. While the Indominus was a dangerous creature, it was also designed as a theme park attraction. The idea was to introduce a new kind of thrill for visitors to Jurassic World, only for the creature to get out of control. The Leucistic Baryonyx is a different matter.

The Leucistic Baryonyx is specifically designed with its more dangerous qualities in mind, something the franchise has teased before. As Santos mentions, this makes it ideal for military application as a living weapon. The Leucistic Baryonyx that appears inChaos Theorymay have been dealt with and its creator killed, but the idea might survive thanks to Santos. It’s possible she even shares this information with Biosyn, leading to more dinosaurs specifically bred to be weapons. This could be a huge turn forJurassic World: Chaos Theoryand the franchise as a whole, including the upcomingJurassic World Rebirth.
