Night Courtairs new installments Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. and will return to NBC on March 11. Season 3, episode 11’s official synopsis reads: “At the behest of producer Sy Hoffman, Dan and Abby work together to turn Dan’s memoir into a musical; Wyatt tries to help Julianne stay cool when her ex-lover turns up at the courthouse.” While “A Little Night Court Music” may have a heavier focus on Dan and Julianne’s storylines, viewers have learned much about Nyambi Nyambi’s Wyatt throughoutNight Courtseason 3.

When the character first took over for Neil as court clerk, he was introduced as a single father still coming to terms with his divorce. Viewers finally meet Wyatt’s daughter, Megan, in “Age Against the Machine,” who reveals that Abby is the only co-worker he talks about at home. While the episode establishes that the judge doesn’t have a crush on Wyatt, the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment implies that he could have feelings for her.

Night Court Season 4: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

NBC’s reboot of Night Court rivals the original in terms of popularity and longevity, but will Judge Abby Stone return for season 4?

ScreenRantinterviews star Nyambi Nyambi about introducing Wyatt’s daughter, season 3, episode 8’s ambiguous line about Abby, andworking with Melissa RauchinNight Court.

Nyambi Says Wyatt Wants Love In Night Court

“I think that’s that desire that we all want. We all want love in some form.”

ScreenRant: I’ve been hoping to find out more about Wyatt’s personal life, and we finally got to meet his daughter this season.

Nyambi Nyambi: Yes, yes. She has mastered lying to a level that I could never imagine an 8-year-old child could muster. It’s incredible. It was fun to meet one of my daughters and get to play. Brooklyn [Bailey] is an amazing actress, and we had a lot of fun shooting those scenes.

Wyatt did a lie detector test at the end of that episode. What were your thoughts on that storyline? Because it was one of my personal favorites.

Nyambi Nyambi: Thank you. It was fun, because ultimately, the biggest liar in the episode was me, because I’m lying about someone at the office liking me. So yeah, it was really fun to shoot that. But then, also, with the other storyline with John and his character as far as his age and him being too old for the job possibly. The thing is that, when I look at John, John doesn’t feel old.

I almost feel like we’re the same age whenever I’m working with John because he’s so quick. Sometimes I feel like he’s younger than me. I’m like, “How are you this quick, man? Slow down.” But the chemistry between Andrew Rannells and him, from table read to tape night, it was just funny, every single moment, every single time. So that was fun to watch juxtaposed to what was happening with Wyatt and Gurgs and Abby.

Yeah, it was just, “But I want love.” Wyatt wants love, and I think that’s that desire is to be loved. So I created a little story that someone in the office likes me, okay? To my ex-wife. “Yeah, you may not. Someone does.” And so I think that’s that desire that we all want. We all want love in some form. So it was fun to sort of play with that and then actually let that sort of crack in the end with the lie detector.

A Wyatt-Abby Romance Could Be Difficult Due To Their Working Relationship

“I keep things in order and loving the judge will only make things messy.”

We know that Abby doesn’t have a crush on Wyatt, however, it was a bit interesting that his daughter said, “You’re the only one at work that he talks about.” I’d love your take on that.

Nyambi Nyambi: I know. I know. She’s doubting me. She’s doubting me. That’s a good question. I feel like there is definitely some love for Abby from Wyatt. But again, we’re working. We’re workmates. It’d be messy, you know what I mean? I’m supposed to keep things in order as a court clerk. I keep things in order and loving the judge will only make things messy. But I think definitely deep down there’s love there. Definitely.

Wyatt does a lot of spiraling on his own, but when Abby is the one who’s spiraling, he can be very grounded. What do you enjoy about that aspect of their relationship?

Nyambi Nyambi: One of the things I play with is animals, as far as who my characters are, and with this character is the ruby-throated hummingbird and the red fox. The spiraling aspect is pretty much the hummingbird trying to fix so many different fires that are happening within, but then the veneers of the red fox. So getting to play with that when it comes to Abby, I am trying to give that veneer of everything’s together, because I have to as the court clerk.

Everything’s together, everything’s together. But knowing that underneath there’s so much going on and having to suppress that has been a lot of fun. You know when the pot is steaming and having some of that steam come out in different ways has been a lot of fun this season, because that’s how I’ve been playing it. I’ve been playing in a way this season where every take has been different. Just being very playful, taking my cues from John Larroquette, because that’s how John plays, every take is different, and just seeing where the chips fall.

And then I just love to see if I can surprise the other actor, as well as the audience. So it’s been fun to play with, especially playing with Melissa, because she’s also watching you as a proud parent, so it is fun to see her. Sometimes it’s her line, and she’s like, “I’m sorry, I was just like, ‘You’re so good.'” [Laughs] Yeah. But it’s been fun to play with Melissa. Melissa has been great. She’s such an awesome leader.

We saw Wyatt taking a bunch of paper a few episodes ago. I’m just curious…what is he using it all for?

Nyambi Nyambi: Listen, we take paper all the time from work. I used to work a nine-to-five job and you’re not going to miss this paper. You’re not going to miss it. Do you know how much paper costs? Kinko’s costs a lot of money, you know what I mean?

So I need paper. That’s such a human thing to do, right? To sort of be like, “No one’s going to miss this.” I’d like to think that it’s flyers for giving guitar lessons locally somewhere—where you take the strip, and I’m posting them everywhere. But not just guitar lessons—ukulele.
