Warning: This article contains minor SPOILERS for The Rings of Power season 2, episode 5.The Rings of Powerseason 2 sees Sauron and Celebrimbor spending more time in the forge, and this allows the show to introduce Celebrimbor’s assistants — one of whom gets more attention than the others.Mirdania seems to be one of Celebrimbor’s most promising smiths, and even Sauron takes a liking to her as they forge the Rings of Power. InThe Rings of Powerseason 2, episode 5, Mirdania glimpses the Unseen World after putting one of the rings on her finger, leading to one of thebest descriptions of Sauron yet.

Sauron also notes Mirdania’s similar appearance to Lady Galadriel, leaving viewers to wonder if he’ll pursue a deeper relationship with her in futureRings of Powerepisodes. Whatever Mirdania’s role is, it’s clear we’re supposed to be paying attention to her. She seems to be an important character during this outing, even thoughshe’s not directly pulled fromJ.R.R. Tolkien’s books.

Mirdania Is An Original The Rings Of Power Character, But Based On Tolkien Lore

With recent episodes increasing the focus on Mirdania, viewers unfamiliar with Tolkien’s work may have wondered whether she’s an important character in his texts. However,Mirdania is a character original toThe Rings of Power. She isn’t mentioned by name in Tolkien’s writings, which limits her potential in the Amazon series. Season 2 may play up her involvement in forging the 19 rings, but she can’t do anything too noteworthy without departing from Tolkien’s writings.

Like many elements ofThe Rings of Power, her character is a means of expanding what’s already in Tolkien’s books.

And currently,Mirdania’s existence isn’t a total divergence from Tolkien’s lore. Like many elements ofThe Rings of Power, her character is a means of expanding what’s already in Tolkien’s books. Mirdania is technically based on them, as the author confirms that Celebrimbor has assistants. He doesn’t spend time characterizing them, butThe Rings of Poweris using the opportunity to fill in the blanks.

She’ll Likely Die During The Siege of Eregion

Even accounting for their fading, Elves have long lifespans in Middle-earth — so we can probably assume there’s a reason Mirdania isn’t around forThe Lord of the Rings.According to Tolkien’s writings,Sauron kills Celebrimbor and lays waste to Eregion. All of this will be covered inThe Rings of Power. With that in mind,it’s probably safe to assume that Mirdania perishes during the Siege of Eregion. The series paying more attention to her character will make her death more emotional.

Of course, with Sauron taking a special interest in Mirdania,it’s possible she’ll die another way in the Amazon series. Mirdania’s future remains unclear, butThe Rings of Powerwill eventually need to explain her absence in the Third Age. Sadly, this means her death is likely inevitable, however it occurs.
