KX Is One Of The Deadly Chemical Agents From Foxglove In The Night Agent Season 2

KX Is A Product Of Operation Foxglove

Foxgloveis introduced to audiences inThe Night Agentseason 2 as an experimental weapons initiative organized by US generals. Catherine explains that thesegenerals sought to protect against chemical warfare threats by getting ahead of the game and developing their own weapons using modern technology and chemistry. The intent was to build weapons and then test them to create antidotes, but the weapons were ultimately used for destructive purposes. Dr. Cole was the scientist behind this operation who originally developed KX gas.

Viktor Bala is the head of his family and was once the dictator of the unspecified country they’re from. At some point before the season began,Viktor was given access to KX Gas by the US Government, which he ultimately used on his citizens. He was then convicted of war crimes and placed in imprisonment in the Hague. Regardless of his captivity, Viktor Bala pulls the strings ofThe Night Agentseason 2’s terrorist attack, ordering his unhinged nephew, Markus, to carry out the attack in NYC on his behalf. His son, Tomás, is also involved.

Why Catherine Doesn’t Fully Trust Peter In The Night Agent Season 2

Peter Sutherland’s new boss in The Night Agent season 3 wasn’t thrilled to have him on her team. To be fair, she had some very good reasons.

As of now, Foxglove and its inventions are still a lingering threat to return in future seasons ofThe Night Agent. KX was re-created once, and it can be done again by future antagonists. KX was allegedly the last weapon still available, but the season carefully set up the potential for ongoing threats. Monroe and Hagan themselves might not want to use Foxglove’s weapons, but there will always be more foreign threats like Viktor Bala.

Is KX A Real Chemical Agent?

KX Isn’t Real, But There Are Things Like It

Simply put,KX gas is a fictional concept made up forThe Night Agentseason 2. Since there’s only been one book in theNight Agentseries by Matthew Quirk, everything beyond season 1 is uncharted territory, and many of the ideas are original to the Netflix series. Using made-up weapons names, organizations, and even countries is typical for espionage thrillers, and it’s surprising thatThe Night Agenteven mentioned Iran while purposefully avoiding suggesting a country of origin for the Bala family.

Chemical weapons have been used in warfare since World War I, and they’ve only become more deadly and efficient over time.

Viktor Bala The Night Agent

To expand on this notion, Foxglove is a fictional weapons initiative, and Night Action is also made up. While they’re all fictional ideas that get dramatized for television entertainment purposes, shows likeThe Night Agentare generally rooted in some real-world geopolitical basis. Chemical weapons have been used in warfare since World War I, and they’ve only become more deadly and efficient over time. The small amounts of information regarding KX suggest thatit’s similar to mustard gas or other blister agent chemical compounds but likely more advanced and lethal.

What KX Does To People Exposed To The Chemical Agent

KX Is A Blistering Agent

KX Gas can be prevented with an antidote or blocked by a gas mask, but its effects can be deadly for those who are exposed to it without protection. The UN Building is the main target of the Bala family’s plan, but the expected result of their attack is the deaths of thousands. KX is specifically a blistering agent, meaning itcauses deadly blisters and burns human skin and other body parts. Long story short, it’s a pretty gnarly way to go, and having it released into the vent systems around New York would cause catastrophic damage to the city.

Why The Bala Family Force Dr. Cole & Rose To Make 15 Batches Of KX

Viktor Bala Wanted To Use KX For A Terrorist Attack

Upon arriving in America, theBala family stole the mobile lab that was used by Foxglove to make the KX gas, hoping to develop more. They kidnap Dr. Cole and Rose, forcing them to make 15 batches of KX, which they plan to place in canisters around the UN building. Viktor Bala was accused of war crimes, and the US managed to escape blame for the situation by removing any evidence of selling him the weapons in the first place. Believing the UN is in America’s pocket, Viktor Bala believes the building to be a prime target for his attack.

Markus and Tomás carry out the attack, beginning with the creation of the KX canisters. Tomás is initially on edge about his father’s plan, hoping to take a more diplomatic approach, and though he ends up on board for it anyway, Markus shoots him and takes control of the mission for the finale. Luckily, Peter Sutherland leads a raid on the UN building after the canisters have been placed, clearing almost all of them. Markus manages to escape with one final canister, returning to the hotel where Tomás' girlfriend, Sloane, is staying, leading to the final confrontation.

Markus places the final KX canister in the vent system of the hotel building before Peter shoots and kills him. They attempt to evacuate the building, butRose ends up having to save the day by using an ingenious method of sulfuric acid and ethanol to shut the vents. Night Action shuts down the KX threat, butThe Night Agentseason 3 still has plenty of conflicts to deal with, as Jacob Monroe is still at large, having just fixed the election and setting up Hagan to be the next President of the United States.
