Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-4.

Christian Convery addresses Oliver Grayson’s first kills inInvincible. Oliver was introduced in season 2 as the half-Viltrumite and half-Thraxan son of Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson (J.K. Simmons). He was taken back to Earth by his brother, Mark Grayson/Invincible (Steven Yeun), and has been raised by Mark’s mother, Debbie Grayson (Sandra Oh). Due to Oliver’s unique heritage, he has grown exponentially and is now voiced by Convery inInvincibleseason 3’s cast. Oliver has been training with Mark, but things take a dark turn whenOliver brutally murders the Mauler twins.

While speaking withScreenRanton the red carpet of his upcoming movieThe Monkey,Convery discusses whether he thinks Oliver meant to kill the Maulers and what this means for the rest of season 3. He suggests that"Oliver is kind of gaslighting himself"by insisting that the Maulers' deaths were an accident. Convery teases that Olver will develop in significant ways as the season continues and that he may learn to become"more human.“Check out Convery’s comments below:

I think Oliver’s got a lot to learn. I mean, he did say it was an accident. So, there’s a little controversy there. I think Oliver is kind of gaslighting himself, but over the course of the season, he’s going to develop his journey. He’s going to expand and hopefully he becomes a more sensitive human or Viltrumite or Thraxan, who knows. Maybe he becomes more human…

What This Means For Invincible Season 3

Oliver Is Following In The Dangerous Footsteps Of Omni-Man

Now that Oliver has his powers, he has to understand the immense responsibility and consequences that come with such abilities. While his physical growth and powers are developing quickly, he is still a young child, and struggles to grasp the enormity of his role in the larger universe around him. Part of the issue is thatOliver has an oversimplified understanding of what a hero doesand a misguided belief that villains must be stopped at any cost, which contributed to the gory way he killed the Maulers.

15 Most Powerful Invincible Characters After Season 2, Ranked

Invincible season 2 introduced some dangerous new characters while others got stronger, creating a new power ranking in Amazon’s hit series.

Another issue is that Oliver reveres Omni-Man. He has never witnessed or experienced the betrayal and destruction that Mark and everyone on Earth experienced duringInvincibleseason 1’s ending.Oliver even calls himself Kid Omni-Manand has styled his suit after his idol, not knowing the problematic connotations of publicly associating himself with his father. With Omni-Man now fully committed to the fight against the Viltrumite Empire and making comments about missing his wife, he may return to Earth, and help guide Oliver from going down a dark and misguided path.

Our Take On Christian Convery’s Comments

There Is Still Hope For Oliver

Despite the chilling scene between Oliver and the Maulers, and his reluctance to take responsibility for it,Convery’s comments about Oliver"becom[ing] more human"indicate that he will learn from his mistakesinInvincibleseasons 3 and 4. After all the suffering that Mark and Debbie have endured, it is a relief to know they will seemingly not also be losing Oliver. If Omni-Man goes back to Earth, all four members of the Grayson family can be united for the first time inInvincible.
