Invinciblecreator Robert Kirkman has revealed the fate of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s new villain following season 3’s climatic battle. First revealed in the final moments of the season’s penultimate episode, theInvincibleseason 3 finalewould serve as aThe Walking Deadreunion between Morgan and Steven Yeun, with the former playing a formidable Viltrumite warrior, Conquest. With the battle between the two characters lasting for most of the season’s final episode,Conquest was finally defeated by Yeun’s Mark Grayson. However, his body is later revealed to be held by Cecil in an underground prison.
Speaking withEntertainment Weekly,Kirkman spoke about theInvincibleseason 3 finale andconfirmed thatMorgan’s Conquest is not yet dead. Suggesting that it is “safe to say that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Conquest will return,” Kirkman also floated the possibility of a future interrogation seen between his character and Walton Goggins’ Cecil. Kirkman also hinted that some of Conquest’s future scenes may have already been recorded by Morgan. Check out his comments below:
It’s entirely possible that there are scenes from season 4 that Jeffrey has already done.
I think a Cecil interrogating Conquest scene, with Walton Goggins and Jeffrey Dean Morgan going head to head, that’d be a pretty cool, intense scene. But to put it more succinctly, I don’t think Cecil would’ve gone to all the trouble of containing Conquest the way he did if Conquest was dead. So I think it’s safe to say that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Conquest will return in some capacity.
What Robert Kirkman’s Comments Mean For Invincible Season 4
It Was Unlikely Conquest Would Be Killed Off So Soon
If audiences had any lingering doubts that Conquest survived his battle with Mark during theInvincibleseason 3 finale, Kirkman’s comments will likely alleviate them in short order. As an undisputed fan-favorite actor fromThe Walking Dead,the prospect of introducing Morgan’s character inInvincibleandkilling him off in the span of a single episode would have been an unlikely move, even for those familiar with the character’s comic book fate.

Invincible season 3’s finale promised a clash between Mark and the Viltrumite, Conquest, with the ensuing showdown not disappointing by any stretch.
With season 4 now looking as though it is ready to fully begin tackling the forthcoming Viltrumite War, it is likely thatMorgan’s newInvinciblevillainwill continue to play a significant rolein assessing the Viltrumite Empire’s upcoming plans for Earth. Exactly how Conquest will react when he wakes to find himself being held captive by Cecil remains to be seen, but much as Kirkman suggests, a confrontation between the two would be a tense and exciting start to the new season.

Earlier inInvincibleseason 3, J. K. Simmons’ Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man revealed that one of the Viltrumite Empire’s most closely guarded secrets was that they only had a limited number of full-blooded Viltrum warriors still living. With this in mind, Conquest’s continued survival is also necessary from an entirely practical standpoint. With a limited number of foes left to draw from,it makes sense to ensure that Morgan’s villain lives to fight another dayinInvincibleseason 4.
