Summary

Chris Evans returned to theMarvel Cinematic UniverseinDeadpool & Wolverine, and I know how that could move on to aCaptain Americaappearance in the near future. Before playing Captain America, Evans was one of the main stars of two Fantastic Four movies. The actor recently returned as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, presumably from the 2000s Fantastic Four films inDeadpool & Wolverine. Sadly, the film saw Johnny die a gruesome death, ruling out his appearance infuture MCU movies. However, Evans could still return to the franchise.

I grew up with Evans as Johnny Storm, with the Human Torch being my favorite member of the 2000s Fantastic Four. Due to that,I was ecstatic to know Evans had been cast as Captain Americayears later. Now that he has been away from the role for some time, it is easy to see just how positive his time as Steve Rogers was, with theMCU’s Captain America moviesstanding as some of the franchise’s best and the hero’s popularity never higher. Now that Evans has entered the MCU again, I know how he could return as Captain America.

I’m Now Convinced Chris Evans Is Returning To The MCU As Captain America

Following major MCU updates, Chris Evans' Captain America return feels the closest it has ever been, and there’s a perfect way to do it.

I Think Chris Evans' Steve Rogers Should Team Up With Multiverse Captain Americas

The MCU Has A Few Candidates

I believe Evans could come back as a multiverse variant of Captain America, helping the Avengers take the fight to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doomin one or both of the next Avengers movies. I also think that could come in the form of a team-up with other versions of Captain America from the multiverse. Despite Evans' fan-favorite status in the MCU, a possible return of the actor as Steve Rogers has to be handled with caution so it does not undermine the MCU’s new Cap, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.

Mackie’s Sam Wilson from the MCU could appear in eitherAvengers: DoomsdayorSecret Warsalongside multiverse versions of Evans' Steve Rogers and Stan’s Bucky Barnes

Doctor Doom from Marvel Comics and the MCU’s Avengers, all with a sinister green glow

That’s why I think the multiverse route could be perfect, as it allows Marvel to unite the three Captain Americas different fans have wanted to see for years. When Steve passed the shield to Sam inAvengers: Endgame, there were many fans upset due to him skippingSebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, who became Captain America before Sam in the comics. Mackie’s Sam Wilson from the MCU could appear in eitherAvengers: DoomsdayorSecret Warsalongside multiverse versions of Evans' Steve Rogers and Stan’s Bucky Barnes, with all three Captain Americas fighting together. Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter could even appear.

I Know The Best Way For RDJ’s Doctor Doom To Bring Back The MCU’s Original Avengers

With Robert Downey Jr. back in the MCU but as Doctor Doom, Marvel could be using a dark story that sees the return of the original Avengers cast.

I’m Convinced Chris Evans' MCU Return Wouldn’t Ruin Steve Rogers' Ending

The Multiverse Leaves Plenty Of Options

Having the three Captain Americas team up on the big screen would make for one of the Multiverse Saga’s best moments, giving fans of each character something to be happy about. Besides, if Evans were to return as a multiverse variant of Steve Rogers, that would avoid any complications related to changingAvengers: Endgame’s ending. The 2019 MCU movie beautifully wrapped the arc of the MCU’s Captain America, and Evans returning as the character would have to mess with that, asSteve Rogers was last seen on Earth-616 as an old man.

That said, there is a way for Evans to return as the MCU’s Steve Rogers and only minimally changeAvengers: Endgame’s ending. In the comics, Steve also became old at one point, thoughhe continued to serve as a major figure at S.H.I.E.L.D.That could be how Evans returns to the MCU as Steve Rogers, with Old Man Steve perhaps helping Nick Fury organize the wide range of heroes that will be part of the Avengers in the team’s next two movies. If that were to happen, Steve would not need to become young again, keeping Captain America’s story intact.

Captain America Is Officially Chris Evans' Definitive Marvel Superhero

Chris Evans played another Marvel character before his MCU debut as Captain America, but Steve Rogers is officially his definitive hero role.

Will Chris Evans Actually Return As Steve Rogers In The MCU?

The Actor Has Talked About A Possible Return

Evans was at one point reported to have signed with Marvel to return as Captain America, though the actor denied any knowledge of that at the time. Since leaving the MCU behind,Evans has maintained the same stance when asked about reprising his Captain America role. The actor believes that he had a good run and is proud of Steve Rogers' MCU arc, which Evans feels is precious to him. And so, the actor thinks coming back could risk what was achieved.

Robert Downey Jr. helped convince Chris Evans to play Captain America in the first place, and with him back in the MCU as Doctor Doom, Downey could be the one to get Evans to come back.

After Evans came back as Johnny Storm inDeadpool & Wolverine, the actor once again spoke about possibly playing Steve Rogers in the future. However,Evans' Captain America return commentswere not exciting, saying,“It might be better just to let those times be those times.“While Evans could be truly done with the role, RDJ’s return as Doctor Doom and reports that Marvel has considered bringing back the original Avengers cast could mean Evans is merely playing coy about aCaptain Americareturn, which I hope is the case.
